☆BETTER TO PRETEND

For musicians in either Pride or Virgo, the job offer is delivered by their managers- a suggestion to accept an invitation from Sevetop to participate in a successful gameshow. (A message that is delivered perhaps a bit more pressingly to some, with the unsaid words of “This is a chance to make it up to us”.) For others, strangers just trying to make a living and wait for their chance to save their loved ones, the message is delivered over their communicators by Gold, with promises that infiltrating this event will aid you in liberating the captives from their label's control. Either way, all roads lead to Sevetop Entertainment.

Sevetop might not have the weight that musical giants Pride Labels and Virgo Entertainment do, but that’s because it’s not into the musical industry. Sevetop is all about television and the big screen. For these purposes, it has its own little area of the city, a bustling kind of Hollywood filled with the more office-like buildings, auditoriums for additions, and even various sets. Whether you’re driven in style via limo, or brought to a regular line of buses, this is where you end up at.

Musicians, of course, end up at the more posh meeting room. A spread of delicate little lunch sandwiches, veggie platters, cupcakes, and assorted beverages are on a table for anyone to snatch up, and regularly refilled. Every celebrity is handed a small folder with papers inside going over both the boring legal things and explaining the purpose of the show. “Royals” are the ones to be “saved”, but they don’t have to make the journey easier on their “Heroes” and are given tools at their disposal to help or hinder. Heroes have one goal to accomplish, ‘rescuing’ their Royal, but it changes depending on the challenge.

Much to your surprise, some of those aspiring Heroes might just look familiar. Don't tell!

☆THE HEROES

In another building, next door, various people picked off the street (some coincidentally, others not so much, thanks to Gold's glamour witchcraft) are being given very much the same kind of presentation… In a room much more cramped, with not nearly enough chairs, on a slideshow. The only refreshments available are small bags of chips (try not to take more than one) and coolers full of bottled water.

After the separate presentations are done with, everyone is allowed to check out the sets for past seasons, which includes what look like giant mushroom tops that are made of very bouncy rubber, climbing walls made of fake vines, pumpkin shaped carriages (horses not included), and other such things.

Of course, it’s not all play. While you’re messing about, you’ve all been given numbers. Once you’ve been called, you’re to stand in front of Fairy Trial’s hosts and commentators: siblings Bella and Maurice Hooks. Both of them are equally friendly, although her more outgoing to his easygoing, but they have plenty of questions for this little audition. Tell them about yourself: hobbies, job, your favorite fairy tale, what you think your best skill is - and then, the most important, you get to display a choice "talent" in front of the audience. It can be whatever you like, as long as it's crowd appropriate.

Be careful, though, because the rock stars you're hoping to work with are watching, too. At the very least, don't make an ass out of yourself. Gold's enchantments are good, but there are some things that even magic can't charm its way through.

After all this, you’ll get a chance to just rest and mingle while your rides come back to take you back to the mall or HQ you were picked up at. Obviously for certain famous names, they’ll probably be the first ones out, but who knows… Maybe there was a traffic delay, and now you have some time to spare waiting around here as well. Just take note that you’re not allowed to wander too far from the Fairy Trial sets. Security is keeping an eye on folks to make sure they don’t steal or wreck anything.

And don’t worry, you’ll be told about the results within a week! They promise.

[Prop sword hidden away or not, that is a very nice dress with floral hair decorations. Of what he's seen so far, she might win fanciest garment at that. But if there was a contest for most silly, he'd taking first place on that one. With little shame to show, he's here in what seems to be akin to a Beast costume from the tale of Beauty and the Beast. ~~Envision the picture but slightly nicer, because connections in the music industry afforded that.~~

Feeling slightly more confident than usual, because everyone just knows someone would have to be seeping with courage or foolishness to pull something like this off in public, while in wait he'll go up to this person he's never met before for introductions. This.. very beautiful person.]

[Great Allfather. That -- what is that?]

[Meril stares for longer than is entirely seemly before she recovers a semblance of her composure, looking down at her own hands before she can stare any longer than she already has.]

Our manager suggested this, but I did not find it a poor idea. This might be entertaining.

[That is a teenage musician above himself who got into the costumes early and wanted to try out. It wouldn't be difficult for any normal person to notice she was intentionally trying to avoid staring, but clearly Roxas has proven he's beyond that at this point.] Could be worse. It's good for publicity, I guess.

They tell you anything about prizes? It'd be nice to win some vacation days instead of stuff, you know?

I have had more time off lately than I care to consider. If this brings us attention and wins us more fans, I think that is the greatest prize.

[Seriously, after everything that's happened, Meril would love nothing more than to simply settle back down, perform, and think of nothing else in the world but day-to-day life.]

[Quite the contrary, Roxas would looove to laze around for an undetermined amount of time with nothing on the agenda.]

The whole idea is so.. weird. Isn't it? Were you around for the last show?

[Bah, this costume is.. not comfortable. He'll try not to show it, but it'll get easier to notice as the minutes pass.]

[You didn't go through a long stretch of total band disintegration, did you, Roxas?]

I rarely watch such things, so I had no idea it existed before I watched it. Perhaps I should try to find old seasons of it...

[Oh yeah.

Okay, no. That's a lot of effort. It's easier to stick where he's at.]

Seeing how popular this is, I'm sure they still air. [Subject change! Time to get to know her a little:] So, what band are you in? [This is the space for musicians, so she probably is in a band. Hopefully. Or strike two for something dumb said/done.]

Defying Atmosphere. I think I may need to be worried if you do not know... [She's supposed to be one of the faces of the bad -- or, well, at least BODIES. Maybe he doesn't recognize her in an outfit that covers her skin better than a bikini.]

[That's absolutely it. He might not recognize her now, but he knows the music.] OH! I know you guys! I really like your stuff! It's so different from what my band plays.

[If she's in that band, that must mean she's.. ..oh. Embarrassed here. Why he hell did he come up with this stupid outfit on?] It's really nice to meet you in person.

Yes, you are a very different sound indeed. [She knows him; Meril had a lot of time to learn about the rest of the label.] I am a little surprised we have not crossed paths before now, but better late than never, yes?

[Maybe Roxas shouldn't been less self-absorbed and done the same.] Heh, yeah, and at an event that has nothing to do with music of all things.

[So. Uncomfortable. This suit is about to buy the farm.] You probably hear this all the time.. but you're really good at what you do. [Eye candy or not, she is! Though being appealing to his demographic is most definitely a plus.]

So, I know those stories are often not, but is the recent one about you true? ..are you? [Expecting, he means. Not an easy way for a guy his age to come out and say it.]

[Her assumption is, as it has and will continue to be, that 'what she does' is fanservice.]

[And it's true. She is good at it. So she nods to accept the compliment, right before her mind immediately goes to a comment she had made to the most recent band article she had seen...]

In a foursome with the entire rest of the band?

[A what? Well.. that would certainly explain the getting pregnant situation.]

Um.. sure? Wait, really?

No, we are not. [Even Meril can't help but smile as he takes that terribly seriously.]

[That would have been so ~~cool~~ interesting!]

Oh.. that's probably a good thing. Would make playing together a little more complicated. Drama and all. [Oh God, move onto something else, now.]

So, read the premise? How you going to treat your 'Hero?' Gonna go easy on 'em or not so much?

A royal should not need rescuing.

[On that note, she draws her prop sword with a flourish, such that the weapon almost rings despite its hard-plastic nature.]

[Fake weapon, yes, but him being impressed by it is real.]

Wow.. no kidding! [Where was she hiding that thing!?] Maybe you can switch the game up a little, huh? I'm sure people would love to see the royal of the event come in and end up saving their hero or something. That would be different.

Perhaps, though that might interfere with the format... still, why not make the attempt? It would make for good viewing. [And that seems to be the ideal angle to sell.]

[Meril casually slides the sword back into its prop sheath without paying attention to the gesture at all. She forgets that is a practiced reflex that she would have no reason to possess.]

[Ahhh, watch Roxas continued to be impressed with the effortlessly slide of the weapon back into the sheath that is within her dress, no attention paid towards how or why.]

You would definitely catch the most viewers doing so.. you should. [Whatever point she would be trying to prove, even if it's the most assumed selfish, this is the kind of thing that Roxas thinks a lot of people would want to see.

With enthusiasm,] During all of it, you whip out your blade and come to action! The crowd would eat it up. [And it'd be fine, because it's her.]

Exactly. [Meril nods firmly, more gratified than she showed. If he understands the showmanship of the idea, that proves it will play, does it not?] A twist and an advancement all at once.

I'd love to see something like that myself, would be good band exposure too --

[Okay, he's cutting himself off here. This ridiculous suit is just too much and has had enough of him.] I'm sorry, I really gotta go do.. something.. [That being changing back into his clothes - where did he put them again?] It was great finally meeting you..

It was very nice to meet you too. I hope your ultimate role is.... [She searches for diplomatic word, and -- can't find any.]
