☆THE FESTIVAL Welcome to the South Vista Music Fest! An enormous, weeklong festival with hundreds of bands performing nearly 24/7, the Music Fest is a quarter annual event that celebrates all manners of local talent, both big time and small time. Every band from Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment will have performances to do, including the freshly recruited – you better have your act together, because now is your time to shine! Player bands will be performing roughly once a day, with bands from the first app round predominantly with evening slots and the newest bands with predominantly afternoon slots. There is definitely a hierarchy to the scheduling - Pride and Virgo claim almost all of the prime performance times, while other labels are forced to deal with the leftovers. You've definitely been chosen by the winners of the music industry in these parts, that's for sure. Shuttles will be available to take people back to their relative HQs in their downtime, but they're also allowed to hang out and enjoy the festivities if that's what they prefer. Stuff is happening all day and night, so it's really just a question of how much you can party while still being conscious for your own show. Your managers will tell you that the company CEOs pay extra close attention to this event, so that you need to be on your best behaviour. The festival takes up a massive amount of floor area with multiple stages of various sizes and a large amount of glowy display screens. It's set up on the ground floor of the cityscape, meaning that the suspension roads and walkways above have been programmed to add to the ambient lighting all day and night. ► TRAILER PARK KIDS: For those that just want to chill, there is a massive VIP area reserved for labels to park various trailers for their musicians to hang out in during downtime - one for each band. They aren't quite as big as the tour buses, but they are comfortable and well stocked. Each is equipped with two beds and a bathroom/shower. Pretty much every local band you know of is here, including the notorious Predator. Nose around their trailer at your own risk. ► IN THE SPOTLIGHT: With at least six performances in a span of six days, there is plenty of time for shenanigans to go down both back and center stage. Time to show your mettle, and to hope that some asshole doesn't take all the best food items from the backstage catering tables before you can get to them. ► ATMOSPHERIC NOISE: If you dare brave the storm, there is a massive quantity of merch, vendor, and food booths available for your perusal. Many fans endeavor to spend as much time at Music Fest as possible, and so the space is very lived in, with large groups of people hanging out in well populated lounge areas. Depending on how popular you are, it may be difficult to get around without getting swarmed by your fans. ► DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER: And all the while, the strange memories continue. The label's newest members will have started to feel strange as of November 6th, and by the time of the Fest almost all of them will be discovering their first memories regains. The first one should be based on the alignment you chose, but the rest can be whatever you want. New character may regain up to 4 memories between their arrival and the end of November.

[Finnick's been all smiles all day. This day is supposed to be a big payoff - their first chance to integrate with their senior bands, and to get a boost from the publicity and crowds they bring in. Finnick isn't necessarily a fan of all their music, but he respects that they've all made it in their own right and he's been keeping his eyes open for any tricks he might take advantage of to elevate himself and the rest of his band.]

[But it's a tiring affair, and Finnick needs a break. The trailer's beds are beckoning him, so he finds theirs and leaves the door open behind him when he steps inside. Running his hand through his hair, he throws himself down on a bed with a groan and speaks, assuming someone from his band has retreated back o the trailer as well.]

Does it ever end? I've seen enough sparkly teen idols for the rest of my life.

[It's strange, having to share this space with other bands. It's bit bigger and grander than they're used to, but Finnick's determined to act like it's just part of the routine. He nearly looks bored as he looks over the catering table, trying to pick out the snacks that fit his strict self-imposed diet. There's a whole lot of posturing to be done here, and he does a good job not looking teribbly interested when other, more well-known bands are coming and going while he and the rest of his band are waiting.]

[That, or he's tuning his guitar, sitting on a stool and looking at the tuning device intently as he picks the strings and then playing a few cords, picking a few melodies. It never hurts to be prepared.]


atmosphere

[Every moment in the public eye is a chance to make a good impression. Finnick's sunny smile is enough to draw a crowd of fans both old and new, and he spends a large chunk of his time signing merch, even for people he suspects couldn't name one Hue & Cry song. When he's not doing that, he's seeking out band mates, fellow Virgo signees, and fellow musicians to strike up a conversation over some common interest that he's detected from afar.]

They're a fad. [ Keith agrees, at least for now without memory of Blue Rose. ] A flash in the pan. It won't stop us from making real music.

[ He takes a seat on the opposite bed. ]

Or beating them on the charts. Teenagers only have so much allowance money, after all!

[Finnick smirks, turning to look at Keith with an eyebrow raised and a smirk tugging at his lips.]

They could all use a lot more parental supervision, if you ask me. Have you seen what some of them are wearing?

There are things worse than indecent exposure. [ Is he being optimistic? ] They could be stuck with Pride's wardrobe consultants.

[Finnick laughs, a low chuckle as he looks back up at the roof of the trailer.]

True. We are blessed by stylists with more modest taste, though I could do without some of the flair.

[ Huh! Out of all the band, Finnick is the one who seems most active in interviews and most charming in the spotlight -- you know, if Keith were to exclude himself. That's unexpected. ]

You're the last person I would expect to turn down something flashy.

[ His remarks are genuine; whatever their relationship was or will be, it's just an objective character assessment. The brainwashing is too strong for any deep-seated concern, so there's still some unfortunate distance. ]

I heard some girls waiting for the show say you might look good covered in glitter.

[Luce has zero reservations about striking up conversation with random people back here, Virgo or Pride. Considering her band, it's a good thing.]

[Finnick looks up, raising an eyebrow. He recognizes her, of course. One of the leads from Flowers Over Bones. They had a similar set-up that Hue & Cry did, though Finnick liked to think that his own band was improving on the formula.]

[He gives her a slight smile, then looks down at the table.]

It's all very sweet.

[Why is she reminded of Krieg suddenly...]

Well, there's always the stalls outside, if you don't mind spending the money. I'm sure they'd love someone who'd never stop.

[ Johanna's had a few fans ask for autographs here and there, but most of her entertainment has stemmed from watching other stars be mobbed by their admirers. Finnick might approach her, considering she's with Virgo, or she might come up to him when the crowd has died down. Either way, when they run into each other, she'll press a hand to her heart and pitch her voice even higher than it already is. ] Oh my god, it's Finnick Odair, I just might die.

[ Hah. She's hilarious. But she does have a slightly more serious question to ask him. ] What is that even like?

[Finnick's in public, so he doesn't dare let his charming smile drop. He knows who she is, and he's quite aware she's being sarcastic, but he takes the question at face value, and gives her a soft, genuine-looking smile.]

Having such adoring and dedicated fans, you mean? It's quite humbling, actually.

Oh no, that's not what I mean. [ She still looks incredibly amused more than anything else, crossing her arms and looking up at him. ] I know what it's like to have amazing fans. I just can't imagine what it'd be like if people liked me just because of my posturing.

So? How's the experience?

[Finnick raises his eyebrows at her briefly, and then breaks into a smile.]

I'm sorry, you have us confused. Posturing is what you're doing right now. My fans like me for my music.

[There's almost a hint of irony in that last statement, like he knows it's not true, but he doesn't care. He's playing the part of a man in love with the music and he'll stick to the script as long as he can.]

If that's what you think, man. [ Though she says it in a tone of voice that says she doesn't believe him at all, equal parts pity and amusement. ] Which band are you a part of, anyway?

It sells. Talk shit about some of Pride's idols if it'll make you feel better. It'll probably sell records for us.

[Yan doesn't even look up from what he's doing, like the whole thing is an automatic response generated upon hearing the word "idol." He's taken over the couch, though with but a fraction of his usual collection of notebooks and research materials, and is, once again, completely engrossed in writing lyrics. Not a single song of his has ever made it onto an album, but that doesn't stop him from trying. Being reassigned to Hue & Cry is the best chance at it that he's ever gotten.]

'Talking shit' doesn't sound like a very me thing to do.

[He is, of course, talking about his public persona - he'll talk shit about idols all day with his bandmates. He rolls over to peer over at what Yan's doing.]

Are you writing lyrics?

Yeah. We can't use all of my old stuff, so I'm trying some new things. I did recopy some things I already finished, though.

[Without even looking up, he gestures vaguely at a few of the notebooks stacked next to him They're filled with notes, photocopies of pages from history books, sketches, and pages and pages of song lyrics that look like what would happen if the Decemberists became fixated on cowboys. It's really no wonder The Old Dirt Road didn't make use of him as a lyricist.]

[He gets up off the bed and walks over, picking up a notebook and opening it up to a random page.]

I wasn't writing them that way, but an arrangement could fix that.

[The process has never gotten that far.]

I have a few that I could rework as duets and the new stuff I'm working on is all meant to be sung that way. There are probably a few trio pieces in there that we could make work, too.

[It's all very businesslike, but it's clear from how his expression darkens a little that the trio thing is a sore point. He'd been quite intent on rebranding The Old Dirt Road as a trio and instead they'd disbanded the group entirely. Even if it weren't for the suspicious timing of it all, it would still piss him off.]

[Undyne's leaning against the headboard of the other bed, her legs sprawled out over the sheets. She's looking uncharacteristically contemplative when Finnick comes in – she snorts at that remark, but she hesitates for a moment after that, drumming her fingers against the wall and frowning.]

Yeah... I don't know, though – you ever wish you were, I dunno... popular with kids, like that?

[Finnick raises an eyebrow at her, lifting his head to regard her thoughtfully before lying it back down again and shrugging a shoulder.]

I don't know - that's a cheap kind of popularity, don't you think? All flash and no substance. If we wanted to be popular with the kids we could get in on a movie soundtrack or something.

[Finnick doesn't sound too hyped about the idea, though. Doesn't sound like he cares much.]

[She shrugs lopsidedly, perhaps a little too distracted to worry about him passing judgement.]

I dunno... sure, it's flashy, but kids really care about it anyway, you know? The way they get into stuff is so –they're so passionate. [She's clenched a fist without realising it.] They're not even a tiny bit pretentious.

[Finnick gives her a suspicious sideways glance.]

Yeah, but they don't buy albums.

[He waves his hand at her dismissively.]

Besides, that's not our image. You wanna write and produce something like that, bring it up with Alex, see how he likes the idea.
