☆THE FESTIVAL

Welcome to the South Vista Music Fest! An enormous, weeklong festival with hundreds of bands performing nearly 24/7, the Music Fest is a quarter annual event that celebrates all manners of local talent, both big time and small time. Every band from Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment will have performances to do, including the freshly recruited – you better have your act together, because now is your time to shine!

Player bands will be performing roughly once a day, with bands from the first app round predominantly with evening slots and the newest bands with predominantly afternoon slots. There is definitely a hierarchy to the scheduling - Pride and Virgo claim almost all of the prime performance times, while other labels are forced to deal with the leftovers. You've definitely been chosen by the winners of the music industry in these parts, that's for sure.

Shuttles will be available to take people back to their relative HQs in their downtime, but they're also allowed to hang out and enjoy the festivities if that's what they prefer. Stuff is happening all day and night, so it's really just a question of how much you can party while still being conscious for your own show. Your managers will tell you that the company CEOs pay extra close attention to this event, so that you need to be on your best behaviour.

The festival takes up a massive amount of floor area with multiple stages of various sizes and a large amount of glowy display screens. It's set up on the ground floor of the cityscape, meaning that the suspension roads and walkways above have been programmed to add to the ambient lighting all day and night.

► TRAILER PARK KIDS: For those that just want to chill, there is a massive VIP area reserved for labels to park various trailers for their musicians to hang out in during downtime - one for each band. They aren't quite as big as the tour buses, but they are comfortable and well stocked. Each is equipped with two beds and a bathroom/shower. Pretty much every local band you know of is here, including the notorious Predator. Nose around their trailer at your own risk.

► IN THE SPOTLIGHT: With at least six performances in a span of six days, there is plenty of time for shenanigans to go down both back and center stage. Time to show your mettle, and to hope that some asshole doesn't take all the best food items from the backstage catering tables before you can get to them.

► ATMOSPHERIC NOISE: If you dare brave the storm, there is a massive quantity of merch, vendor, and food booths available for your perusal. Many fans endeavor to spend as much time at Music Fest as possible, and so the space is very lived in, with large groups of people hanging out in well populated lounge areas. Depending on how popular you are, it may be difficult to get around without getting swarmed by your fans.

► DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER: And all the while, the strange memories continue. The label's newest members will have started to feel strange as of November 6th, and by the time of the Fest almost all of them will be discovering their first memories regains. The first one should be based on the alignment you chose, but the rest can be whatever you want. New character may regain up to 4 memories between their arrival and the end of November.

[There's another person hanging about the trailers, and Luce at first just glances at the man because he catches her eye. Just like that, however, her 'hot mess' sense is going off.]

[She's seen worse, of course. ~~She's met Xanxus for one thing.~~ Still, she smiles over to him.]

You look a bit rough, dear. Do you need help with anything?

[At first Bill doesn't respond, mindless in the pursuit of liquor. He steps up the stairs of the trailer-- probably one that isn't even his. Is it yours? Virgo stocks them all the same anyway.

...The “Dear” part is what stops him, and he holds the door open for the girl should she be inclined to follow. “Dear.” It sounded so oddly maternal. Bill honestly can't recall the last time, if anyone ever used that phrase for him. When is the last time he spoke to his own family anyway?... If he thinks about it he can see scores and scores of them, but none of the images hold any actual meaning. He must have memorized the people off the tv or something. One of the drawbacks of an unnaturally good memory, he supposes. That.. That's all this is.]

"I just need to know what happens next."

[He answers through clenched teeth, seeming to be having trouble popping the cork on the bottle in his haste.]

[It is FoB's, in fact, and Luce follows after just to make sure nothing ridiculous happens while she's around to prevent it.]

For what?

[She lets him work with the bottle a little longer once she gets a look at it. After a little bit of searching, she pulls out some very specific glasses and... a water carafe? She fills it up and, when it seems like he's still having trouble, holds out her hand.]

It's absinthe. If you don't mind the wait...

[..'For what?' Not 'why?' Not 'what are talking about?' Not 'get out of my trailer you lunatic.']

"Because--! I know everything! I'll bet in at least five alternate realities you ask me the same thing!"

[Yet he doesn't know 'for what'-- and he can't bring himself to admit it. Apparently he has some grand master plan that is so secret even HE doesn't know WHAT it is!! GAH! At her words the blonde's eye drifts dumbly to the bottle. He sheepishly hands it over.]

"So it is. Heh. You Flower over Bones don't skimp on the good stuff."

[He gauges her reaction, testing if his guess is right.]

[Her reaction is a simple at ease smile.]

It's two adults in a band with teenagers, even if they are rather lovely. We're allowed a little indulgence so long as we don't end up in a field somewhere nude.

[Undoing the cork, she pours the appropriate amount into the two glasses.]

You might want to sit down and catch your breath until you can tell me more about everything and alternate realities. This is going to take a bit, anyway.

[Bill twitches a brow in mild suspicion, but ultimately decides to take up the woman's offer and sits down. It isn't often someone entertains his crazy notions, but even if this was some trap to exploit him, he made his fame off of being weird; there was nothing to be lost in this little game.
Spoilt for nothing to do with his hands, he pulls a deck of cards from his coat.]

“So, get this-! Imagine for a moment that everything you do, every thought you have changes the flow of reality. You flip a coin there’s two results-- head or tails-- or one of the weirder less probable choices where it lands on it’s side or decides to spontaneously combust! Point is; it’s all down to likelihood; and boy are there plenty of outcomes!”

[To demonstrate he cuts the deck which each option mentions.]

But it isn’t just down to actions; every experience prior to such event has some effect. Maybe this coin was made with 40% more nickel than another version.

[He cuts both respective piles,]

Maybe this time you’re wearing a different pair of shoes that slightly changes the trajectory of your toss.

[He cuts again]

Maybe this coin particularly offended you and you want it thrown as far away as your limited mortal fleshy limbs can toss it! Point is! the Universe is full of beyond infinite variables. Even a stray thought could lead to another split-off. And if you’re wondering why you don’t feel these reality shifts; Well, you do! That's where deja vu, or the concept that some days seem to go faster than others come from.

Anyway, bit hard to get into; thought provoking stuff., but that’s the general gist-- for those inclined to believe that sort of thing~”

[Bill’s expression gives nothing away. Did he actually believe any of this? Is he just screwing with you? Regardless, he does at least look to be a little more relaxed. He is an entertainer first and a musician second, that's for sure. He re-stacks the deck.]

“Why the sudden interest?”

[Well. That's a lot of words. Quite a bit of it is weird words, as a matter of fact, or, rather, words that construct rather peculiar lines of thought. It's enough for the glasses to be halfway full when he finishes up.]

Oh, me? I just like listening to people talk, especially about things they're passionate about.

[Smile.]

You know, I feel like I've heard something similar to that sort of idea... In a movie, I think. [She laces her fingers together, tapping them along the opposing knuckles.] There were dinosaurs in it... Ah, Chaos Theory? That kind of idea. Is that something you're interested in?

“Chaos theory, alternate dimensions, parallel Universes! That whole shebang has miles of research, and miles more still of people invested in the belief of said research! I wouldn't say conspiracy theories are my passion per sayyyy, but when you roll in the circles I do, you're expected to know lots of things!”

[L͡O̷͡TS̨ ͞O҉F̴͟͡ T̶̵͠H̶I͘Ǹ͜͠Ģ̶S͢͠ A pyramid, a handshake, collapsing ruins, a man leaps, dust of times past! The glowing surface his back hits sizzles, Explosions! He yells, Stars! Bill blinks, unevenly, one eye at a time, saved only by the fact his missing eye is partially concealed behind his patch.]

“I mean, I am Illuminati, apparently. If you read the papers.”

[He chuckles in mild amusement.]

“But! what I know LESS about is YOU! Quite the puzzle aintcha? Acting all demure but going for the hard stuff.”

[It's your turn to spill it, sister!]

My, Illuminati. I'm sure you know all sorts of interesting things if that's the case.

[But the drinks are ready, and Luce slides a glass over to him before she starts to stir her own.]

I'm an adult. Aren't I allowed to drink things like this?

[Also it's a lot more helpful to have a nice alcohol tolerance of some sort. You never know when you might need to surprise an acquaintance... or stay sober enough to let someone drunkenly babble all sorts of things.]

"Hey, I'm not knockin it! You're also allowed to drink motor oil or the BLOOD OF THE INNOCENT, if you want to get technical! Just typically anything close to being 80 proof is classified as a more acquired taste."

[Speaking of which, he... has no memories of drinking it himself; but he does seem to know plenty about the drink when he thinks on it. Eh! Must have just blacked out last time he had it. Bill watches her intently, removing his silk gloves to copy her stirring motion.]

"So how does one acquire such a taste? Something of a tradition?"

[Maybe he's prying a little, but hey, you can't fault a guy for trying.]

I'll pass on the blood of the innocent. [Quick and easy to miss, she winks.] It'd be hard to find, what, with us being in the music industry.

[As if she didn't say anything, she finishes stirring and delicately sets her spoon to the side. Luce doesn't take a drink immediately, if only to answer his question first.]

Oh, it's just something I've picked up over the years, you know.

[Bill has to agree with that- and he has the feeling it has nothing to do with the price 'innocent blood' would cost. More like scarcity. No one was innocent here.]

“Like your talent for secrecy?”

[Bill takes a small drought of the liquid himself; closing his eyes to adjust to the new sensations. It's funny. For something so strong, he hardly feels as though it has hit him yet at all.]

“All right, all right, I knows when I'm beat. Name's Bill Cipher, Vandalism in Progress. Tell me I get an introduction at least?”

[Yes, it's deliciously dangerous that way. Fortunately, Luce is well versed in the effects of absinthe, so she'll make sure he doesn't have more than one glass and be there if he tries to follow any strange lights he thinks he sees.]

Well, a woman has to have her secrets. [Grinning, she offers her glass for a toast.] Luce, Flowers Over Bones. I believe I might have heard about you in the news.

“Have you?”

[And if he doesn't look just delighted at that news-- or maybe it's the alcohol. Knowing Cipher it's probably a mix of both. Hearing he caught someone's attention always strokes his ego.]

“And do you believe what you hear?”

[He clicks his own glass in a toast, taking a longer draft this time.]

“Luce. The 'Madonna Lily' of Flower over Bones is what they call you, isn't that right?”

[He'd ask to what he owed the pleasure, but really he just invited himself.]

Well, it is the media. [Leaning back, she takes another sip of her absinthe. She likes to take her time and enjoy these sort of things.] Who knows what's the truth? I know I certainly like finding it out on my own.

[Although, considering things, she should probably stop adding more mysteries to her plate...]

Oh yes, that's my little gimmick. The Madonna Lily. I accept "Holy Mother of Bass" too, of course.

“Of course.”

[Bill agrees, appreciating the name.]

“So 'The Holy Mother' meets with the 'Illuminati' for drinks- hehe. Somewhere some journalists' head must be exploding.”

[Normally he'd just chug the liquid and be done with it, but something about this stuff is starting to kick in and the buzz feels so pleasant Bill finds he doesn't mind following Luce's slow pace as much as he expected to. In fact, by this point, he can hardly recall what had worked him up in the first place. He swirls his glass, amused by the spirit's gentle current.]

“You know, some say 'truth' is just a concept invented by the powerful to guilt others into giving them more power. If reality is defined by what we choose to perceive as real, you might as well consider truth just the backup argument."

[He shrugs, stretching into a more relaxed position.]

“Either way, you're right at that. I'll be interested to see what truth you find.”

Don't get them worked up into a frenzy, now. They already think everyone in Virgo is an alien.

[Which had been amusing to see the reactions to, if nothing else, and Luce's giggles go on a bit longer with a little more energy than usual. Just a tad.]

Would you be interested in seeing what I come up with in the end?

“Aliens huh? Better yet, maybe we're all from another dimension.”

[He joins her laughter, the slightly maniacal lilt in his cackle still there, albeit less intense usual.]

“Hey, whatever you come up with is bound to be better than any tabloid, count me in.”

No reason to say we can't be both, is there?

[A wink, and she reaches the halfway point of her glass.]

If you say that, I'm half tempted to have a side career as a journalist. If nothing else, I could avoid the same boring cliches they always throw out into print.

"Now you're talking!"

[Bill grins back toothily, a slight sway in his movements. Oh, oh, he's really feeling it now! By all the powers that be and whatever existed beyond the veil and infinite void this was good stuff. He grips his edge of the table, torn between wanting to flop backwards into his chair and stop existing forever and bouncing off the walls in his newfound reverie.]

"As fun as it is to throw the bait and see the suckers scatter for it, you can do an awful lot more when you're the one pulling the strings! I mean, we aren't called the entertainment industry for nothing. Wen eht htiw ni! Give em something they won't expect!"

[Luce is fairly certain that even on absinthe, whatever the other man just said wouldn't make sense. At all. Still, she smiles and nods, briefly getting distracted by the way the light hits the wall before looking back to him.]

You can get away with a lot more of it on the paranormal ones, can't you? Unless, you know, you were patient enough to be on the normal celebrity magazines before you pulled out something ridiculous.

"Hehe oh yeah, THAT'D be something to see! Lure em in with some well placed facts, a couple a touching childhood stories for credibility and then WAM! Everyone has an uncle on Jupiter! The music industry is planning an uprising against wearers of sweaters and the color puce! The cyborg's have already infiltrated society! Jello is sentient!!"

[Evidently Bill's body decides laying down is the best option because he is slowly slouching backwards now, leaning back in his seat, still gesturing animatedly.]

"Or, you know.. something actually ridiculous."

[He holds a serious face a moment before laughing. Yes don't worry, he's actually joking this time.]

[Oh, he's not- oh good, not falling down. Luce eases back once she's sure that particular worry isn't one, giggling.]

And what do you count as actually ridiculous?

[Falling is subjective here, Bill continues to slowly slip lower in his seat; but at least it's a slow decline. He makes the sound of an audible shrug.]

"Hnn, hard to say. Humanity in general...?"

[It almost looks like he's nodding off. Bill's hat slips over his face and with his gesturing he looks like the world's laziest composer.]

"We think we're so important, but we're nothing but a blink of the eye in the grand scheme of things! We can't see the ultraviolet patterns on flowers, understand the motions of the stars, or hear th' thoughts of... colors."

[Slow descents don't usually result in fast and hard blunt force trauma to the skull. She lets him slip, humming in thought.]

You know. Some people do hear colors.
