☆MINGLE LOG: SOUTH VISTA MUSIC FEST

Who: Everyone!
What: An open mingle log for everyone from everywhere.
When: November 18th-24th, 2054
Where: South Vista
Warnings: Could be anything!

☆THE FESTIVAL
Welcome to the South Vista Music Fest! An enormous, weeklong festival with hundreds of bands performing nearly 24/7, the Music Fest is a quarter annual event that celebrates all manners of local talent, both big time and small time. Every band from Pride Records and Virgo Entertainment will have performances to do, including the freshly recruited – you better have your act together, because now is your time to shine!

Player bands will be performing roughly once a day, with bands from the first app round predominantly with evening slots and the newest bands with predominantly afternoon slots. There is definitely a hierarchy to the scheduling - Pride and Virgo claim almost all of the prime performance times, while other labels are forced to deal with the leftovers. You've definitely been chosen by the winners of the music industry in these parts, that's for sure.

Shuttles will be available to take people back to their relative HQs in their downtime, but they're also allowed to hang out and enjoy the festivities if that's what they prefer. Stuff is happening all day and night, so it's really just a question of how much you can party while still being conscious for your own show. Your managers will tell you that the company CEOs pay extra close attention to this event, so that you need to be on your best behaviour.

The festival takes up a massive amount of floor area with multiple stages of various sizes and a large amount of glowy display screens. It's set up on the ground floor of the cityscape, meaning that the suspension roads and walkways above have been programmed to add to the ambient lighting all day and night.

► TRAILER PARK KIDS: For those that just want to chill, there is a massive VIP area reserved for labels to park various trailers for their musicians to hang out in during downtime - one for each band. They aren't quite as big as the tour buses, but they are comfortable and well stocked. Each is equipped with two beds and a bathroom/shower. Pretty much every local band you know of is here, including the notorious Predator. Nose around their trailer at your own risk.

► IN THE SPOTLIGHT: With at least six performances in a span of six days, there is plenty of time for shenanigans to go down both back and center stage. Time to show your mettle, and to hope that some asshole doesn't take all the best food items from the backstage catering tables before you can get to them.

► ATMOSPHERIC NOISE: If you dare brave the storm, there is a massive quantity of merch, vendor, and food booths available for your perusal. Many fans endeavor to spend as much time at Music Fest as possible, and so the space is very lived in, with large groups of people hanging out in well populated lounge areas. Depending on how popular you are, it may be difficult to get around without getting swarmed by your fans.

► DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER: And all the while, the strange memories continue. The label's newest members will have started to feel strange as of November 6th, and by the time of the Fest almost all of them will be discovering their first memories regains. The first one should be based on the alignment you chose, but the rest can be whatever you want. New character may regain up to 4 memories between their arrival and the end of November.

'Talking shit' doesn't sound like a very me thing to do.

[He is, of course, talking about his public persona - he'll talk shit about idols all day with his bandmates. He rolls over to peer over at what Yan's doing.]

Are you writing lyrics?
goateeocracy: (more history boner)

[personal profile] goateeocracy 2015-11-22 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. We can't use all of my old stuff, so I'm trying some new things. I did recopy some things I already finished, though.

[Without even looking up, he gestures vaguely at a few of the notebooks stacked next to him They're filled with notes, photocopies of pages from history books, sketches, and pages and pages of song lyrics that look like what would happen if the Decemberists became fixated on cowboys. It's really no wonder The Old Dirt Road didn't make use of him as a lyricist.]
thelittlemerman: (neutral//nice horse)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-11-22 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Any duets?

[He gets up off the bed and walks over, picking up a notebook and opening it up to a random page.]
goateeocracy: (resting bitchface)

I wasn't writing them that way, but an arrangement could fix that.

[The process has never gotten that far.]

I have a few that I could rework as duets and the new stuff I'm working on is all meant to be sung that way. There are probably a few trio pieces in there that we could make work, too.

[It's all very businesslike, but it's clear from how his expression darkens a little that the trio thing is a sore point. He'd been quite intent on rebranding The Old Dirt Road as a trio and instead they'd disbanded the group entirely. Even if it weren't for the suspicious timing of it all, it would still piss him off.]
thelittlemerman: (neutral//is that my homocidal friend)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-11-24 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Finnick takes note of the expression, but elects not to comment on it. He knows there were issues with Yan's old band, but he's not interested in hearing about them right now. Maybe they were a little more established, but Finnick can't see how Hue & Cry is anything but a step up. He drops the notebook back down where it was with a shrug.]

Solos work too, for either of us. I don't mind singing back-up once in a while, focusing on the guitar.
goateeocracy: (actual eyebrow motion)

Nothing wrong with that if whoever is singing lead is worth it.

[He honestly means that, too. You would think he'd be the sort to let his ego get in the way, but he's surprisingly more comfortable in a supporting role. If Hue & Cry had a little more mainstream appeal, he'd have no misgivings at all about just being the fiddle player (and lyricist. He has his dreams.)]

I have a few back-up parts for myself in there that I'll have to rework for someone else if we use them.
thelittlemerman: (neutral//so what's the plan)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-11-24 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finnick shrugs, sitting back down on the bed with a sigh.]

Whatever you want. We have other songs in the works as well.

[He's surprisingly apathetic for someone who wants so much. At this stage in the game they're so busy that he's decided to sit back and see where it takes them.]
goateeocracy: (resting bitchface)

[personal profile] goateeocracy 2015-11-27 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yan frowns at him. If there's one thing that gets under his skin, it's apathy.]

It's not like I can sing them if I'm playing fiddle. It's kind of inconvenient.

[He could probably, but there's no real need for him to since the rest of the band is more than competent.]

thelittlemerman: (snark//i don't care)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-11-30 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finnick turns his head to Yan with a flat look and a raised eyebrow to indicate that he is about to reach the threshold of annoyance.]

Then don't sing.
goateeocracy: (default en face)

[personal profile] goateeocracy 2015-12-01 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Yan shoots him a glare and goes back to writing. Just what he needs: an apathetic asshole who thinks he's some sort of smartass.]

Whatever management tells me to do.
thelittlemerman: (jerkface//tell me your secrets)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-12-01 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finnick smirks at that, and his tone goes from annoyed to wry.]

They do seem to like it when you do what they tell you.
goateeocracy: (actual eyebrow motion)

[personal profile] goateeocracy 2015-12-02 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's how the industry works. Play the game, do what you're told, and let management take care of things.

[He doesn't want to go into what happens when you don't. He didn't tell anyone in his old band and he's not telling any of these guys either unless it looks like he has to for safety's sake. He doesn't need them treating him any differently.]

If they screw you over, make the most of it.

[Which would be what he's doing now, considering he's pretty sure that's what they're trying to do to him by sticking him here instead of honoring his request to become a solo artist.]
thelittlemerman: (jerkface//unfortunately i think that's t)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2015-12-04 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, good, he's annoyed again. Surprisingly enough, he doesn't like being told what to do, especially not from someone who plays behind him on stage. It's egotistical and stupid, which he knows, but he doesn't want to set a precedent that he can be told what to do just because he's younger than most of his band, or because this is his first really big break. He'll play humble with the press and the fans, but there's no way anyone in the business is going to think he's anything other than fully capable and in charge of his own future.]

Yeah, thanks for the sage advice.
