"I really liked them," he says, without hesitation. He's still looking over the pages of the book, visibly enraptured. He thinks for a moment about that, and about his birthday, and then his gaze becomes distracted as a strange thought seems to pass through his mind - another memory.

He closes the book and clutches it between his fingers, like he's worried he's going to lose track of it if he doesn't hold on tight enough.

"It's still happening to me," he says, sounding confused and faintly distressed.
