LOOKING FOR SOMEONE

Who: Garnet, Koumei, Molly, Pinkie, Greg, and Jamie
What: Where Are They Now? The Scoobies Come Together!
When: February 19th
Where: A club booth/Lesedi and Edward's offices later
Warnings: The characters in this log will be getting in trouble with the labels, so brainwashing, injuries and torture, implied or otherwise, is very likely.

It started with a simple text that evening. Well, no, that was wrong. It started with a knock on the door that morning.

Garnet had wanted to check on Nariko, on all of her bandmates. All that responded to her was silence. She kicked open the door, and was met with nothing. As if the bedsheets had never been used, or the bed even slept in at all.

Nariko - the girl she saw as a daughter, their lead singer - gone. For hours she sat on that bed, her hands over her face. Once the tears dried, however, she balled her fists and stormed out of the penthouse. She wound up here, at this club, typing on her cell phone, a grim expression set on her face.

Pinkie, Koumei and Greg. If others were at the club, and wanted to join in, fine. She didn't think there would be others, though.

P3nn Station. 8pm. I'll pay.

Its a sophisticated little place, a jazz club with a good clientele, a good waitstaff - and a good chance they will be left alone for the most part. She might be asked to perform. Otherwise, though, the guards could have their own drinks, and she would be able to talk freely with those who came.

If they came. As time ticked away, she knew her idea was contingent upon people arriving, much less be amenable to it. If this didn't work out, well - this was a nice club. She could come here again in the future.

"I've got it covered," he said quietly, and delicately struck a match alight against one of the ceiling panels. Moving quickly, he held it up to the sprinkler...

"Hope no one minds getting wet."

The quip came right in time for the sprinkler above them to go off, spraying the lot of them in cold water. The shower set off a chain reaction, opening up similar sprays from the sprinklers down the hall.

"Awwwww, my hair's gonna get all frizzy." Pinkie doesn't truly sound all that put out, but she tugs the hood of her jacket up a little farther anyway. "So, um..." How to put this? "If we're climbing, I don't know that I really wanna do...that. I'm not scared of heights!" She's quick to reassure everyone of that. It's not that she's scared to help now that she's here! She signed up and she meant it.

But still, climbing? "My hands are kinda weird lately," she admits, eyes on the ground. "I'm not sure I could hold on."

What unnerving news-- and Pinkie should count herself lucky that she was a vocalist if she was having hand issues. Were she an instrumentalist, she'd be fired in a heart beat.

They couldn't allow that to happpen.

"I already said, I have that part under control." He tied his long hair up into a messy bun as he spoke, oddly calm and professional in a way that a pianist shouldn't be. Then, looking fully at their rag tag little team, he continued:

"Please. I can't explain-- just trust me."

If Garnet's Future Vision were working appropriately, she might catch a flash of a star field.

"Uh....okay!"

Pinkie doesn't know him, but Koumei definitely sounds like he knows what he's doing. Maybe he's got some kind of magic thing too. Why couldn't she have gotten something useful like that, instead of all this? She moves to stand closer to Garnet, out of the way of anything that might be about to happen with the ceiling panel.

Out the top? Climb? From the roof? The roof of this building?

This is starting to sound like a spectacularly bad idea.

Jamie, hurrying from one end of the corridor to the other to keep an eye out for anyone that might interfere with...whatever this clusterfuck is, shoots Koumei a look as he passes by.

"I hope you know what you're doing," he mutters nervously, and then he's taking up his lookout position at the far end of the hall.

Molly had been quiet through most of the ordeal, but she'd been there, silently observing, watching things unfold. This was already getting out of hand, with the alarm blaring and the sprinklers going off. She huddled against the group, keeping a close eye on Koumei. He had a plan? They kind of needed one.

"Just hurry up!" she snapped, tugging her hat down tighter over her head. She was carrying a few items in her pockets, but she didn't have any bedsheets. Why hadn't she thought to grab bedsheets?

He looked around furiously, looking for something that would enable their escape. So long as his target was within eye-sight, he could take them almost anywhere...but this...

"It doesn't work like that-- we need to move!"

[A janitor's closet. A bathroom. Any of them would work...]
sailorlaughter: (I...what?)

[personal profile] sailorlaughter 2016-02-24 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Where are we going?" Pinkie's not sure how they're meant to access the roof from here. But bedsheets - okay, they need bedsheets. She has a quick, crazy urge to reach out and pull them out of somewhere...but she doesn't have an emergency bedsheet stash! She just doesn't!

There's plenty of rooms on this floor, though, and one of them must have something useful. She darts over to the nearest door and tugs on it. "Uh - there's like, towels and stuff in here!" It looks like a storage closet. There must be lots of those around here; rock stars go through an awful lot of laundry. "Wait, does it matter if the bedsheets are those super-duper bright gold ones? 'Cause they're big, but I kinda think you might be able to see them from space."

[personal profile] mildwildchild 2016-02-24 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie comes scrambling up just then, soaked and panicky. "Security's coming down the hallway we need to move nownownow!"

He bolts to stand beside Pinkie, looking between the storage closet and the rest of the group. "Do we have time to grab stuff before we go I think we should just hide in here we can all fit in here right? Right?"

He's talking a mile a minute and bouncing in place agitatedly. Obviously he is handling all this really well.

Molly resisted the urge to smack Jamie and instead followed Pinkie to the closet. Her hands were mostly free, so if she could carry something, then she would. But it wasn't like they had a lot of time to just stand around like bungling teens. No, they needed to actually do something.

"There's a bathroom that way," she hissed, nodding her head in the direction. They could all fit in there and try to figure out how to get to the roof.

Disappointment and irritation weighed on his chest as his heart pounded out an anxious stacatto in reaction to everyone's panic. He couldn't do anything if he didn't have visual contact, but with all these kids...

This was a mess. It was never going to work.

"Bathroom. It's not much further-- and I need a window."

He could transport the rest of them to ground level and hide in one of the stalls, if need be. An operation like this should never have been compromised so quickly...
sailorlaughter: (IDK)

[personal profile] sailorlaughter 2016-02-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"What do you need a window for?" He can't climb up from here, can he? There's no way he'd get the sheets up there and tied onto something. But Pinkie hustles along to the bathroom anyway. Apparently, this is what they're doing now!
mildwildchild: (doc pls)

[personal profile] mildwildchild 2016-02-25 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie, too, slips into the bathroom, though he's no less befuddled than Pinkie. Once everyone's in he hisses in a low voice, "What exactly is the plan here?"
nandemonai: (together with you)

[personal profile] nandemonai 2016-02-25 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's what Molly wanted to know. She hadn't expected to be nearly so... messy. Once they're all in the bathroom, she glances at Garnet, since this was her idea. How did they get out of this?

The city-- and a clearing in the parking lot, near the gardens, down below.

"It will," Koumei intoned, holding out his hand.

The suddenness of the motion was matched by a strange symbol glowing golden on his hands. It was one Garnet might recognize, if she had ever taken a peek at the scraps of papers that passed for Koumei's notes. The strange symbol was littered all over the margins in recent months, as he had tried to make sense of what the image had meant.

It was only finding Garnet in the bathroom, panicking over her eyes, that allowed the piece to fall into place.

A deft motion with his hands called up a series of flickering lights that resembled constellations, and they arrayed themselves into a shape that was large enough for the four of the others to pass through.

A parallel array appeared outside, and under his breath Koumei uttered the words 'Dante al-Thais.'

"It's a gate," he explained quickly, already lowering the portal over the other four. "You'll be safe. No climbing involved at all."
sailorlaughter: (Ooooooh...)

[personal profile] sailorlaughter 2016-02-25 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that sure is a thing that just happened.

"That is suuuuuuuuper-duper cool..." Pinkie says in a hushed voice, leaning down to peer through the gate and then straightening to look out the window again. "So we're just all gonna go down there, and...then what?"

[personal profile] mildwildchild 2016-02-25 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, wasn't...the idea to get somewhere else inside the building?" Jamie's tone is kind of dazed, because this whole thing just keeps getting more and more bizarre. He watches the portal with some trepidation.

"This thing isn't gonna like...rip us to shreds or fuse us all together or something, is it?"
nandemonai: (thank you for the power to believe)

[personal profile] nandemonai 2016-02-25 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
So the plan was a bust? They were escaping already? Molly is kind of annoyed, but she's too shocked by the portal to scold anyone. Bravely, she stuck her hand inside, and then pulled it out.

"Well, it didn't hurt."
dishevelment: (war counsel)

[personal profile] dishevelment 2016-02-25 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a door; doors don't hurt."

It was a fairly simple concept in Koumei's mind, but it did nothing to allay the disappointment in his own voice. They would need to plan this out better for the next time, and come properly prepared instead of just doing this off the cuff. Without any idea of what everyone was capable of at this point in time, it was impossible to know what they were capable of.

Besides. It was insane to bring kids along.

Garnet will find that the portal doesn't kill her. Instead, she's safely outside as if she had simply stepped through a door. Not a hair was out of place on her head, and there was no sense of ill reaction to the process.

"Once we're outside, we're outside." He explained calmly to the rest who were still in the room with him. "It's better to retreat now and try this again another time."

He hoped they would hurry. Maintaining these portals was starting to become tiring.
