The birds persistence is what really gets his attention. It's hard to ignore an animal when it's being so cute, and so unabashedly. He slowly starts to get up and come over, though as he does, something else is dawning on him too. This bird seems familiar.

His stomach twists with a sudden anxiety, and a sudden hope. After a moment of stunned surprise as the revelation rolls over him, he quietly tries to open the window. It slides open enough for her to get in, but not much more.
