005 ✽ We be all night

Who: The willing from Pride and Virgo
What: Want to know what party sucked? The solstice party. Want to know what party won't suck? Luci and Luce's.
When: Jan 8th
Where: The basement of the club Blue Heist
Warnings: None planned besides possible/probably intoxication

A little while after the disaster at Naomi's, those who had attended might find themselves approached- by Luce on Virgo's side, by Luci on Pride's, or perhaps by someone who had heard about it from either of them. The subject of conversation?

Another party. One that involves another mingle of both labels, without being used for any ulterior motives.

Those who seem up to it are given a time and place. Blue Heist is one of the clubs around town that has what could be called a "basement level", for private renting and parties available to anyone who has the cash to spend on it. It's a pretty simple set up, nothing extravagant like the party at Naomi's... Which is absolutely on purpose, let no one tell you otherwise. There's a reason any mics or karaoke equipment has been pointedly removed. All the music is on the system already.

Nope, tonight it's just dancing and drinking, with a couple of rooms to the side that have cheesy movies playing in case you're tired out. No closed doors, no poison at the bar, no murder.

And if you want to take a moment to maybe have a talk to someone on the opposite label to discuss or apologize for the events of the prior night... That's fine too.

Just be careful. Both labels are still under watch, it seems, with a few bodyguards from both sides around the perimeter here and there.

Doctor is caught up in his thoughts, staring up at the aquarium decorating the ceiling, when Mai plunks a drink in front of him. He snaps back to attention, looking at the drink then at her then back to the drink then back to her, all within a couple seconds.

"Is this for me or did you want to sit here?" he asks.

"It's for you. If you don't want anything alcohol, I'll switch you." She gestures to the glass in her own hand by raising it up a touch.

Doctor lifts the glass on the table and gives her a smile and a nod. "Well thank you! You're Mai from Crown of Thorns aren't you? The violinist! Would you like to sit with me?"

There's no way Doctor wouldn't be familiar Crown of Thorns when they're in the same genre as his own band. Rei was particularly interested in her fellow violinist in past conversations.

Well he's an enthuiastic soul. It's enough to bring a slight smile to Mai and she sits without argument, giving a nod.

"That's right. You're the cellist with Flowers Over Bones, yeah?"

At least that feeling is mutual. Mai has no problem whatsoever with Rei.

"Yes, that me! Doctor." He takes a little sip from the drink she brought him. "How long have you been playing violin? And do you play any other instruments or sing?"
maipokerface: (i'm not so naive my sorry eyes can't see)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-01-17 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
He's full of questions. She doesn't seem to mind at least.

"I started out on the piano actually, then I took up the violin a little after that. It's mostly been the violin though. I do backup with the band and lead the occasional song here and there but I'm more about the violin than the singing to be honest."
trustme: The Doctor smiling (smiling gladly)

[personal profile] trustme 2016-01-20 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
"The violin is a singing voice of a sort anyway isn't it? Did you know it was created with the sound of the female soprano's voice in mind? That's why it has such a similar range." Doctor was known as the crazy instruments guy for more than one reason.
maipokerface: (when it gets hard)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-01-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Now there's a good piece of trivia. Her brows raise up with that. "I never knew that. Does the same go for any other instrument?"
trustme: The Doctor interested (interested)

[personal profile] trustme 2016-01-21 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't read about a direct reference to a voice type for any other instruments, but just as the chorus is categorized the other members of the string section can be. The Viola would be the alto, the cello the baritone or perhaps the tenor, and the bass... well it has its name for good reason."

Doctor takes another swig from his drink. "Have you ever been a part of a choir or orchestra? It's an amazing experience."
maipokerface: (we had even seen the start)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-01-22 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
At that Mai nods her head a little, all of her attention focused on Doctor for the moment. "Nothing professional. The school I went to had it's own orchestra for practice purposes. Choir... not so much."
trustme: The Doctor interested (interested)

[personal profile] trustme 2016-01-24 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"No choir? That's a shame. But you know what I'm talking about then. When the orchestra plays the sound is something greater and far more beautiful than just the sum of its parts. I'm still very involved in classical music because of that powerful sound- they don't use it nearly often enough in other genres. It's a shame because electric guitar is lovely with an orchestra."

Doctor waves his arms about a little as he speaks, emphasizing the power and his passion with a determined fist and gestures like waves in the air.

"I like to think our sort of bands help bridge the gap between popular music and classical."
maipokerface: (now find a way around)

It's pretty entertaining to watch him gesturing about. Maybe Artolo was wont to do such too but it's not really the same as the good Doctor here. She settles her chin on her hand as she watches, a light smile canting the corner of her lips upward.

"Well we definitely agree there. As much as I do love the violin, there's really no comparison to when a whole band groups together. I'll be pretty sad if I ever end up soloing again some day."
trustme: The Doctor interested (interested)

[personal profile] trustme 2016-01-26 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Me too. Besides, band is family. Not a conventional family but if you love each other, who cares about normal? I've had fans suggest that being too close to the rest of one's band could be a distraction- take away from quality. But I don't think so. When you like being together, you like playing together and that makes it mean so much more! You can hear the difference." He leans forward, barely holding back a laugh, and adds, "They call it harmony for a good reason."
maipokerface: (cause I've got an elastic heart)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-01-26 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"... So the whole family thing really is true. I mean with your band." She seems to be mulling that over.

"We get along in our band but I wouldn't call us 'family'." Beyond the fact that she doesn't honestly know what family is like, hating her own like she does.

[personal profile] trustme 2016-01-28 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, our band happened to have a natural chemistry about it. Luce does like to act motherly towards anyone in their teenage years or younger and that's the entire rest of the band aside from myself." His childishness might explain a thing or two though. "In one sentence we trust and believe in each other. When you have that the love and respect just sort of follows suit."

He blinks several times, realizing he's bragging about his luck to someone who says she doesn't have that with her own band, and he attempts to correct himself. "If not your band, you might have that with some of your friends," he suggests.
maipokerface: (but there were so many red flags)

[personal profile] maipokerface 2016-01-28 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She waves a hand lightly at that. "Don't worry about me. I don't really do the whole 'family' thing anyhow." Which is more or less true, given her own family.

"Well then I hope you get the chance to experience it for yourself someday. It could happen, even if you're not looking for it. These sort of things like to sneak up on us."
