Those who have visited local grease shack Brad's Diner in the past may be surprised to see the radically changed decor for today. The booths were already lined in red cushions, but now there are additions of heart balloons, shining ribbons, and red and white candles on each table.

The festive atmosphere hits you right in the face when your server arrives! Her name tag reads 'Di', the I dotted with a heart. But that's usual. More unusually, she's sporting a pink mini-dress and red apron, and there's a long red ribbon laced through her usual braid. She winks at everyone coming through the dtheoor, presenting them each a small chocolate.

"Welcome to Brad's, home of the chocolate strawberry milkshake! Everything's half-price for singles today, and couples all receive a free cake! But if you'd rather flip it around that's fine by me too! It's Valentines, all about showing you some love! I'm Di and I'll be taking care of you today, cuties."

She then bounces to lead her customers to their seats. Even the regular table seats are well cushioned with fluffy pillows, so there's not a bad seat to be had in the house! She's also piled a lot of big balloon decorations between the tables, hopefully making it easy for musicians to go incognitio just as Rei asked. With luck, they can make this a warm and welcoming place for any and all.

The Performance (Closed to Flowers over Bones)

[Not everything was roses in Rei's life, but having a someone...and a family...to spend a holiday with certainly was a positive. She'd promised too, that she'd do something to drum up a little business for Brad's, and today was the right day. Before going out with Yosuke she got the entire band together, piled them into her car with promises to Angel it was just a quiet holiday meal, and pushed them into one of the booths with a grin at Di.

The meal had been pretty good, the entire band noisily and cheerfully digging in and not at all hiding. A few people might gawk but that was the point. But it wasn't enough to put the restaurant on the map...

Rei grinned and picked up a spoon, gently starting to tap it against one of her cups to start a rhythm...]

C'mon everyone. Just like we talked about.

[ Ivan takes the laminated milkshake menu from the table and starts tapping the edge to the table. He'll also move to shaking sugar packets or a salt shaker if need be, but he works with this. Paper, he thought, is something he's becoming increasingly known for because of his origami. He felt that he should choose something along that line. ]

[ Doctor slides in next to Ivan and grabs the pepper shaker. While he begins shaking that, he starts knocking on the napkin dispenser. He turns to the Luce and Pao-Lin and nods them over with a grin. ]

[Pao-Lin is armed with a fork and knife to lay down some delicious beats. She alternates between brushing the utensils against each other for a softer sound and sharper beats by drumming them against the edge of the table. Her bonneted head bobs in time to the rhythm.]

[Luce knows, technically, that she can't really fight Angel right now if she really decided to push. Fortunately, there's her band to push back, it seems, and there's a certain glitter in her eye as she takes her own glass. There's still ice in a quarter of it, and the cubes clatter against each other nicely with just a bit of movement. A nice backdrop to the clinking of Rei and Pao-Lin's silverware.]

[They probably cut quite the ridiculous sight, but that doesn't seem to matter at all, not with music playing. Rei's free hand picks up a knife and adds to the beat with several solid thumps against the cushion of one of the chairs. A kind of swing beat, it seems.

She'll leave the song choice to the rest, instead starting with a preface, voice strong and stern as it always is on stage.]

We'd like to thank everyone here for coming out to support your local diner. Di here told us those big chains were starting to move in and take over, and you know what? We weren't too fond of that. So here we are, reminding you once again to shop and eat local, so places like this can thrive and survive!

[ Ivan's unsure if he would have so bluntly said their reasons, but this is Rei's idea. He'll follow her lead and try to get his head more into music than it has been.

After tapping the menu to the beat of the song,Ivan starts to sing. ]

[A loud cheer erupts from the side once they finish! 'Di' whoops and applauds, and she already has a tray of ice-cold waters to pass to each performer. As she does so, she smiles winningly at her patrons.]

Everyone, please give it up for one of our wonderful hometown bands, Flowers over Bones!

[And as she passes the water, whispered to them:]

Thank you so much, you're amazing!

[Rei stands up and takes a bow before sitting back down and giving Di a little smile and a wink.]

I told you I'd make good on my promise, didn't I?

[She smiles softly, though something hides behind it.]

I knew I could count on you. I promise we'll live up to everyone's new expectations!

Anything for a friend, Di. Especially a pretty one.

[Now she's probing, hoping you'll slip up even more. She knows something's up...]

[That's the kind of thing Usagi always says! Minako looks a little flushed.]

Ah---well that's my job, isn't it? Draw eyes, draw money! And if I can make anybody a little less lonely, it's always a plus.

[faithfulflame]

[She has slipped up, just a little bit. Rei smirks.]

Make anybody not lonely huh? That means you're single?

[This may of course be deliberate.]

[She twirls the end of her braid around her finger, hoping that heat on her face is just from the kitchen.]

Ah, yeah, always that way! Working the weird hours, y'know, gotta support the family...

The curse of the waitress, huh?

[Okay, so, she's starting to wonder a few things now. More than a few really.]

Am I making you nervous, Di?

[Pao-Lin beams brightly at her and whispers back:]

Thank you for letting us do this! And for the food and drinks, of course.

[Minako giggles and passes her a quick snack too---same little dessert Rei had ordered for her.]

Come back any time you want! We're here every day.

That was marvelous fun! If your boss is alright with us making more scenes in the future I know I'd be happy to perform here again in the future.

[ Doctor gives the pepper shakers a couple more rhythmic shakes before putting it back aside on the table. ]

Oh, I think today's turnout might help that a little...

[She giggles appreciatively.]

Rei was happy when she talked about her family. It's great to meet you all.

Great to meet you too! You've chosen one of the best local restaurants to work at! The food here is always enjoyed!

Rei certainly was excited about coming here to perform. She had us all abuzz.

[She can't help but laugh.]

I didn't think this was going to be the place for a refined lady when I invited her! But I'm glad we can please all comers.

Speaking of, any special treats you've got a hankering for?

Ah trust me, as long as the food is good we don't mind a less fancy atmosphere. Our Pao-Lin has a real appetite, so any place that tames her stomach gets a thumbs up from us. That and classic diners are such a fun retro style, aren't they? It would be fun to go back in time and see what it was like when everyone really dressed the part.

Any special milkshake flavors today?

Ah, what a great idea! We can have 50s night, a real sock hop! I'll have to tell the boss.

[Congrats on giving her a terrible idea, Doctor.]

Our specialties are chocolate strawberry, cookies and cream, and PB&J today! All fresh and delicious.
