☆BETTER TO PRETEND

The day has finally come for Fairy Trial filming to begin!

No matter if they’ve arrived by limo or taken the bus, everyone involved gets star treatment as the makeup and costume departments go wild with the models they’ve been given. At least Sevetop has good accomodations. While it’s a chaotic and crowded scene, everyone still manages to fit in the two buildings Sevetop has dedicated for Fairy Trial’s purposes in this area. It’s one of the only points today that anyone will have a chance to everyone else. After all, once everyone involved in a particular challenge is done with, they’re hurried out the door and to their particular destination.

Every challenge has a different area it takes place in, after all. For some pair ups, they’ll find themselves merely being escorted to another set on Sevetop’s huge property. Others will find themselves being escorted to some very classy transportation and taken outside of Vista City to special obstacle courses that simply wouldn’t fit anywhere else. On the bright side, once the actual filming is done no matter the location, the crew involved seems to relax considerably. Whether they’ve done great or not, Heroes and Royals are treated to dinner and a change out of their costumes. Good job, everyone.

[When she heard the news upon arrival, she hadn't known what to think. Usagi had said that Rei wanted her for an ally, right? So maybe that was meant to be all along. And once she heard what the challenge was...

Singing. Of course it was singing. She didn't know whether to feel relief or apprehension---oh, she knew she could do it, but music had strange effects in this town. And there was always the chance she'd draw unwanted attention, wasn't there?

She'd just have to be brave. And with that in mind...she'd know just what to sing. When Rei appears, she lifts a hand in greeting, aiming for casual. No need to wield her raw emotion just yet.]

So we meet again, huh?

[Rei, never nervous in front of the camera, is dressed up in an outfit clearly inspired by fairy tale nobility of the East. Her long hair was done up in elaborate braids, though some still spilled down her back, and when she saw her partner she sucked in a breath at that outfit, her whole heart filling with hope and joy. So, the request had not gone unanswered. She'd worried about that but it didn't matter now, all her troubles melted away.]

We do. [Rei dips in a deep, formal bow before turning her attention to the God of Death.]

I see you have come then. To protect me from an untimely death. And I know what will save me.

[Bowing again, she takes a breath.]

Shall we begin, dearest Di?

[Minako's gold dress isn't entirely matching, and the heels are something else. But the costuming team (and Minako herself, let's be honest) had a very specific goal in mind here. And she'll play her part to the very fullest, starting with a little wink and hair-flipping bow.]

That's right! I, Di of the lowly Bradlands, have come to challenge all who stand in our way! Prepare to be punished with the power of love!

[Something about the way she carries herself is borrowed from her other life. The familiar fire burns in her eyes as she starts, drawing on that strength for the first few lines.

She starts at a distance, just a slight sway as she stands. No need to use all her weapons just yet.]

When I see your eyes, I’m a trouble maker

When I stand next to you, I’m a trouble maker

Little bit more more more

As I go more more more

Now I can’t help my own heart

[Rei focuses her attention on the "enemy, her eyes hard and intense. If she was supposed to sell this, she was going to give it her all. She was absolutely set on that, and on winning, if she could, for the blonde. She obviously wanted it, and she could use the prize money, let's be honest.

So, rather than hinder, she slides smoothly into place beside Di, doing a little twirl and starting a slow, swaying dance. This song? Oh she knows it. She's so ready, and her rich contralto voice echoes just after Di's.]

So you can’t forget me, I keep standing in front of you again

Your heart, so I can’t shake it and get out of it

I steal your lips again and run far away

I’m a Trou a a a ble! Trouble! Trou! Trouble Maker!

[Ah, Rei. Of course she knows what she's doing, they hadn't even needed to discuss it. Even now, they work as one, and Minako tries not to let her relief show.

She slips into the dance without a thought, eyes challenging the god of Death when she can bother to spare a glance from her Rei. Together with her, their voices blending:]

[Oh, she comes close all right, her hands making ghosting movements over Rei. But she doesn't dare touch, not now, she's got an image of the goddess of temptation to sell.]

[And what a tempting devil she is, at that. While Rei moves, hips twisting and body swaying, she pretends to shiver and shake at each not-quite touch. Her eyes focus on Di’s, going wide and somewhat pleading, exactly like someone caught in the tangled webs of a very troublesome romance. Her lip quivers for the camera, her acting not really all that forced or faked. She wants Di’s touch, in truth…but she also wanted the blonde to want her back. ]

As we continue I fall much farther, the more I know of you, the more I’m loving, baby

I feel like I’m drunk with thoughts of you, lately

I can’t ever ever stop!

[She sways, listing to one side like she’s swooning, throwing an arm up over her forehead in a dramatic gesture and falling a little into Di’s arms. She trusts her to catch, and beams up into her partner’s face from below. It’s an easy performance to get into, really. The song was perfect for that, since it was two lovers causing a frackus for one another. Leave it to her to pick out the perfect tune!]

[Oh, Di gets the message. She bends gracefully to catch her princess, sharing a wink when the curtain of her hair shields their faces. They're going to own this---and after a moment's pause they come out swinging. She spins Reiout, gives the death god a challenging glare, then circles round to take her hand.]

Everything fades away in that haze, save one thing
Your heart and mine, reaching out, trembling
Under it all I'll claim you, just one kiss
But I'm no easy catch, I'm a real trouble maker!

[Kissing? Again, no. Just a tease...but when her gaze shifts to Rei, her eyes burn with the admission that all of this is real. She dances out of reach once more.]

[Oh, that’s just not fair. Rei very much knows at this point how Di feels, how Minako feels. When she’s spun out, she holds a hand over her heart, acting like she’s wounded, her own hand gripping tight to the blonde’s. Her eyes meet the Death God, a triumphant glare to her gaze. She won’t be denied this, by you, death!

Her eyes flash again when they meet Di’s own, the spotlight falling on the pair of them, and she darts forward in an exaggerated stage run grabbing for that retreating hand.]

Why won’t you take me inside of your heart?

I’m just going to say it, say how I feel!

I’ll never stop, I won’t let you go!

I just can’t stop, because I’m the real Troublemaker!

[They’re coming up on the final refrain, a harmony, but Rei’s not ready yet. She takes Di’s hand and gives her a tug, taking the lead for the finishing dance number. Improvised though it was, it seems to come naturally to her. She twirls the other girl around, pulling her in tight and holding her against her waist. They’re of similar heights so it’s easy enough, and she’s grinning against the other. Her focus shifts back to the God of Death for a second, and she sticks out her tongue teasingly.

And then turns, and kisses Di hard on the mouth. On camera. Shy Rei Hino, who gets quiet when she’s not into performances, is publicly kissing another girl. Won’t that be a shock for the fans? The kiss is brief though, because she has to continue the song and set up for the finale. Half of the chorus, leaving Di with the other two repetitions, in a breathless but happy voice.]

[Rei is nothing if not a trouble maker, and it's never more true than it is now. Minako knows she's stirred something, she feels just the slighest bit guilty about using her wiles for this purpose.

But all that passion comes crashing back down over her in one burning moment. Rei's got her trapped, she's digging in---

---and then she steals a kiss. Minako's toes curl with delight, and with distant memories flashing across her mind? Ah, she wants more. So much more. But it's over all too soon, and she absolutely must focus. With the power of passionate love radiating from every inch of her, she curls an arm around Rei for the grand finale. Together, their voices rise.]

My heart and yours in an old dance tonight

[The last dance starts to resemble a tango. Oh yeah, she's going all out for this.]

[That passion strikes Rei like a thunderbolt, thrumming through her whole frame and making her shiver against Di as they dance. She steps lightly, expertly matching each movement, her voice ringing out.]

Everything fades away but your love burns so bright
My heart and yours in an old dance tonight!

[And she whirls once more, feet tapping against the floor in a solid rhythm, eyes never leaving her partner's own. The death god is a distant concern now, so lost is she in the dance. It's a beautiful thing, she thinks to herself, absolutely certain of each step. There's not been a time where she's felt more connected to another person, even the times she was intimate with Yosuke pale in comparison to this. This feeling of partnership and togetherness...]

Trou-ou-oublemaker...

[The final line on her end comes out, but the dance isn't done. Not till Di ends the moment with her own.]

Trouble maker!

[And that's her cue. They move as one with a dramatic flourish, Minako's hold tight and sure, but this time when she dips her Rei-chan she intertwines their hands and leans down, sealing it with one last teasing kiss to punctuate that last beat. She can give as good as she gets, but if this moment could last forever...

But the show must go on. One more defiant grin toward the death god, and she'll gently let Rei up and mock-bow to him, holding that glare at he who dares to come between them.]

[Rei does much the same, glaring at the death god, and the actor in the costume actually blinks back tears and takes a step back, turning.]

You have moved me, mortals. I will allow you a reprieve. But know that I shall return and claim my due twiceover in your future.

[And then he stalks off, leaving the pair alone on stage, and prompting Rei to turn and hug onto Di so she can whisper into her ear.]

That was perfect. You're sure we aren't...partners already?

[Minako squeezes her in celebration---victory! They've got a shot at this finale, and more important, well...

That question's a little complicated to answer.]

...not this time around.

[Rei kisses her once more on the cheek as she glides away.]

Then we are now. We'll just...have to go out soon. Very soon.

[One last parting smile. Minako fights down that tinge of red spreading on her cheeks and gives a wave.]

I'll look forward to it!
