[ Instead, he leans his head back against the backrest of the sofa and puts his right hand on his face. ]
I know. I know. I didn't mean to say that. Not here, not to you, just...
[ He traces off, keeping still. It's just so frustrating. ]
[ And he's dead. ]
[ ...wait a minute. ]
People disappeared?

[He sighed and glanced away for a moment, brows furrowed with concern.]
And the only one I did manage to get some information out of was someone in Virgo. He informed me that he was diagnosed with a medical condition and needed immediate surgery-- they did something to his brain, although neither of us know what.
[Settling his gaze back on Squalo, there was no hiding his weariness and exhaustion this time. Too much had happened in too short a period, and everyone's nerves were wearing thin.]
Don't worry about talking. It's not the first time someone's told me something uncomfortable since this all started. Some people affected by...whatever this is are visibly falling apart at the seams.
[Like Garnet, the strong Keytar Mom of Cosmic Indulgence. As circumstances stood, Koumei didn't feel comfortable burdening her with his own concerns when she was speaking with plural pronouns and acting as if she were literally from a different planet.]
It's been mostly in dreams, for me, [Koumei added at length, not letting go of that hand at all.] Except for a few instances...like one time when I was on stage, and the other night at the party.
...I think I'm in the military, as some sort of strategist. At least, that's the point of view those dreams are told from.

[ That's... unsettling, to say the least, but he can't help but try to pick at it. ]
Think that's what happened to Xanxus?
[ He also disappeared, though for an entirely different reason, looks like. But it was hard to miss his return, all stitched and bruised and with a motherfucking bitch brand. ]
[ He almost looks displeased when the topic shifts on him again. ]
I'm not "falling apart". I just... need a--. [ He runs a hand through his hair. Once, twice. Something solid, he needs something solid that he knows is real and could hold onto. ] An anchor.
[ He gently tugs his hand in an attempt to get it free, but if Mei's still not letting go, he's going to turn it over and squeeze his instead. ]
Military, huh? You've gotta be pretty damn smart.

[He shrugged, unwilling to commit and believe such a strange situation so readily. There were still too many holes, and word was out on whether or not this was a medical condition like Yan had warned him about...]
I'm not sure what happened to Xanxus-- but I know it wasn't that. The people who went AWOL didn't come back roughed up like he did. That's a separate matter entirely.
[One he didn't like at all. The most disturbing part of it was the fact that Ms. Santiago didn't seem to care either.]
....We all need an anchor right now, Squalo. This whole thing...it's exhausting.
that is such a pretty icon tho
[ Genos seemed to think that those strange situations were where they were meant to be. Then again, that's just what someone with said condition would say, right? He'd much rather believe this reality. ]
Good to know. Or not, because apparently we've got enemies in the same organization. Not that I can blame anyone for getting fed up with him.
[ Sigh. ]
No kidding.
Hah, thanks!
[Pride really did have tough players on their side, and none of them were safe. Koumei had heard bits and pieces along the rumormill about what happened-- and, honestly, he could hardly blame Xanxus for retaliating.]
The ability to keep a cool head is more important than smarts right now-- it's a bonus if you've got them both. But, for now, I think we ought to find people we can trust and stick close while things are uncertain.
I think that's the only way we'll be able to figure out what the deal is.

[ He scrunches his nose a bit -- he can maintain his cool, but he also does have pretty damn explosive temper. He prefers the latter, especially now. At least this talk seems to have taken his focus away from the whole supposedly not having a hand thing. ]
Just 'cause you can trust someone today doesn't mean it'll be the case tomorrow.

[He shrugged, leaving the words up to interpretation. The reply sounded oddly composed and professional, even to him.
It was unnerving.]
A couple months ago, one of the senior bands decided to harrass the newer ones without warning. We ended up in a strange horror movie set up, and the youngest among us were made targets for violence.
The rest of us? Had to save them.
...It was a mess, and the worst thing is that Ms. Santiago didn't even care.
no subject
[ Good man. Not letting himself be ensnared by sentiments. ]
Interesting. [ That's it. His assessment is 'interesting'. The fact that he doesn't care for kids probably helps. ]
...can't say I'm surprised. Replacing most of us is easier than we'd like to think.

[Koumei sighed, not at all bothered by Squalo's cool take on things. It was refreshing, after spending so much time confronting and comforting the young men of Flashstep and even some of Virgo's kids regarding the same matters. The only other one he had found who was so level headed about the situation was Yan, the Country-blooded Fiddler for Hue & Cry.]
That's why, whatever the deal is with your hand and whatever Genos' reasons for wearing his shades all the time, I think it might be best for the both of you to lay low about all this. Xanxus and some of the others here who are starting to get it aren't likely to be so smart...and we don't need you thrown in a freezer.
I like you when you're thawed out. Frozen Cellist isn't my preferred type, you understand.

Easier said than done. [ He's going to try, though. Finally there's a hint of the usual smirk returning to his face. ] The freezer had nothing to do with it.
And hey, everyone hates frozen fish, right? [ there we go, a grin. ]

[He shook his head, contented now after the conversation Squalo. The knowledge of another in their label whom he could trust, one who wasn't a kid or visibly falling apart at the seams was enough to ease his own misgivings for the moment.]
no subject
[ He doesn't feel like saying anything else on the matter at the moment. If Koumei wants to use him as a pillow, he's free to. ]
no subject
He didn't need to put on a strong front.]
...Thanks, [he murmured at length, without preamble.
The reasons shouldn't need to be stated.]
no subject
[ He could get used to this. ]
