Because she doesn't for a single second believe he's the sort of person who would leave a friend hanging for no good reason. And maybe he was scared, maybe he did make a mistake, but everybody makes mistakes. She very slowly reaches out, and puts her hand on his.]

[Something does bother her about the idea of a person being sent to jail for something they didn't do though. That feels... avoidable somehow. Like someone should have been there to sort that out. But she's doing her best to push those thoughts aside for now. Right now, she has to figure out a way to comfort Ivan.]

Even if you did make a mistake, even if you did mess up and hurt someone, the answer isn't to close yourself off. People make mistakes. We screw up. That kind of thing shapes who we are. Even more than the things we do right, I think. Because we can learn from our mistakes.

So go ahead and get close to people. And when the time comes, even if you made a mistake once before, the next time you'll do better.
