Welcoming Atmosphere

It's been weeks since Defying Atmosphere made their last performance. Public appearances are limited, but Greg and Meril have been boosted to fame as the faces of the band. Any public memory of Weasel, Gaige, Lora, and Krieg seems to have vanished all together. Kimiko keeps telling them not to worry their pretty little heads about it; just keep signing the merchandise she gives them and get to work. She knows what she's doing.

And clean this place up, you pigs.

They have not cleaned this place up. Rather than the wild mess expected of the rockstar lifestyle, the penthouse more closely resembles a college dorm room, complete with soda cans and pizza boxes built up since the last time the maids swept through. What isn't covered with junk food wrappings is stacked with pages upon pages of half-finished songs and diligently signed headshots.

He's just been signed on, a new addition to a long standing band. He opens the door to his new flat and... this place is disgusting, and the fact he thinks that is clear on his face.

"How can you live in this filth?" He speaks up, picking up one of the half-finished song lyrics. It only takes him a moment to read the lyrics, scoff and drop it right back. "What's with this wallowing? If you're going to wallow, at least wallow somewhere clean."

Who's this now, a new maid? He thought he put the sign out. Half asleep and dazedly thumbing the strings of his bass, Greg glances over, wondering if it's even worth rebuffing the criticism. Then there's a slight thump and twang of strings as he staggers up to his feet.

"Oh, uh! I mean, it's... uhhh." He scratches at his neck, and tries to hide the embarrassment with a smile. "Hey! Hi. Sorry it's been... busy. Um, but, you're, uh, Kokoro, right?"

He nods. "Your brand new drummer. I'm sure I'm a step above whoever you had before," self-assured and confident, maybe it comes across as cocky but he's too sure of himself to actually care.

"I hope it doesn't always look like this." Because there's no way he's going to stand for it. A house should be neat, at least, if not perfectly clean. Aren't there supposed to be maids to take care of a mess like this?

Greg's smile strains a little at that comment. This is already hard, without Krieg's warnings echoing in the back of his head. It's none of Kokoro's business, though. Hopefully.

"Uhh. Nah, not usually... to this degree." No one would ever, ever claim Greg to be a tidy person, but even this is past his usual standards. Mostly because there's usually maids around. "Just, y'know, with the holidays, things get a little... eh."

He twirls his hair, smile pleasant for now at least.

"The holidays is no excuse for a mess like this." It's awful, disgusting and needs to be cleaned.

Not that he's going to be the one to do it.

"Yeah... yeah, you're right. Sorry you had to see this." He can't deny it's a pretty gross mess. They've been in a serious slump, but that doesn't excuse how bad it looks for someone on the outside.

"But! Now with you guys coming in, things' re gonna shape up. Promise! Everything is gonna work great from here, no sweat." He's telling himself as much as Kokoro.

"I'm sure you'll clean it up. Hopefully sooner than later." Because he's not willing to stay, penthouse or not, if it stays in such a mess.

"That's definitely a vote of confidence. I can work with that! Do you have sheet music or are you going to ask for new beats? Because I can do that just fine too," he's practically oozing confidence. It doesn't take any convincing out of him, no matter what the situation, he's going to make this work.

And then he's going solo.

Greg starts with the effort of kicking some of the garbage off to the corner while they talk. Having a mostly-clear floor is the first step, he figures. The maids can figure out the rest.

"We've got some beats set up on stuff we were working on before..." Well, before. He has the sneaking suspicion Kokoro's style is very different from their last drummer's, in more ways than one. "But, if you've got your own ideas they're more than welcome. Better to showcase what you've got out the gate, you know how fans can get about change."

He stays at the door until the floor is clear enough for his tastes... It may take a while before he gets to his room.

He hums in consideration. "Yes, of course. They tend to be quite opposed to it." Which only means his job is harder, but he's never been one to back down from a challenge. No, he can definitely feel excitement at the thought of proving himself. "I'll make it work," his tone shifts to determined. "Any finished lyrics you've got lying around, or should I work on those too?"

"No doubt. I'm sure you've got it covered." Sure, Kokoro definitely isn't someone who needs his ego stroked. Greg's just that confident and glad to have a band back together.

"Oh yeah. I've been writing up a storm, you don't have to worry about that. If you want, we can do a jam session once you're settled in!"

Confidence is key! Especially when you're standing on a stage with an already established band.

"Excellent." He claps his hands in excitement. "The more we get done the better. Could you show me to my room?"

"Right-o. This way--promise we didn't mess it up." Don't worry, you won't step on anything gross on the way over. So long as you watch where you're going. "Let me know if you need anything, all right?"

He'll just watch the floor and make sure he can avoid whatever's there. Today is not going to start with his shoes in an old pizza box. "I'll keep that in mind. Do we have a set practice schedule?"

Meril sat up, blinking very slowly at this sudden intrusion and what had to be deliberate rudeness. For her own part, she took her deliberate time in turning her attention back to her laptop, typing a farewell to her guild and logging off, before setting it aside to rise.

"You would be Kokoro?"

It may or may not be deliberate rudeness. That's for him to know and everyone else to never find out. But honestly, this place is a wreck and it's impressive in the worst way possible.

"That's right. Your new drummer," he gives a cute little curtsy.

"Lovely," Meril said, flat and dry as bone. "We were informed you were coming, but clearly without any accuracy as regards to time."

Not that they would have cleaned up much had they known, to be fair.

He doesn't seem phased in the least. "I can see that. I hope my room isn't in such... disarray. A small mess is fine, but this is definitely pushing the realms of livable."

"We have had no cause to go into the other rooms of the penthouse." Cold as ice and sharp as glass, now that Kokoro had reminded her of their former roommates. "Now that you are here, we will allow the housekeeping staff back in."

Whatever baggage she has is her problem, not his. If she has an issue with him, she can say it to his face or to their manager.

Either way, he's here to stay. "Wonderful," knowing that this place is going to get cleaned up is infinitely reassuring.

This was off to a rocky start, wasn't it? She could at least extend an olive branch, as much as she hated to do so. "It will be good to get back to playing again. We were not given much preview of your abilities -- would you be adverse to a demonstration in a bit?"

"Of course not. I'll bring the beats and blow you all away." If she's going to be civil, he can do that too. "Or, more accurately, keep all of you in time."

"I cannot fault your enthusiasm, although you will find no faults on that score as far as Greg and I are concerned." If nothing else, the two had gotten quite good at playing together in the intervening time.

"Good! I'd hate to leave you all in the dust," because of course he's sure he's better. He's been a step above all his life- but only because he works so hard at it. "I'll provide a flawless beat for whatever music you've got."

"Technical performance is one thing, but what about heart?" Questions Meril might not have asked a month or two ago now seemed very meaningful indeed. "I am afraid we know very little about you, including your history or how you got into music to begin with."

"Would you like to? I certainly won't mind sharing... After this place is a bit cleaner, of course."
