Once You're a Square You're a Square All the Way

Who: Usagi Tsukino (Serena Lapin) and anyone who wants to rescue her

A: Early Morning (The Attack)

Usagi Tsukino was not late.

Not so much a miracle as it was that Usagi finally remembered to set her alarm clock an hour and a half ahead of time to get there exactly on time. On her way to work, she didn't even notice the unusually high amount of people surrounding her. She didn't think much of it at all considering that it was early enough in the morning people were likely on their way to work and school.

She didn't even seem to notice how so many of them had square hair-styles and a lot of them were chewing bubble gum. But Usagi wasn't the sort to judge someone based on hair and eating habits. Honestly, she was the last to do such a thing on such subjects. However, when they all started whistling the same tune, Usagi admittedly got a little... well, honestly she felt a bit... weirded out? But no dark energy, no sense of magic, or anything that felt like she should be worried for her safety. The whistling in unison made her nervous but she was sure it was just the new pop single from one of the many bands she intended on rescuing.

Oh how very, terribly wrong she was.

Usagi blinked at the wall of people suddenly in front of her with square hair cuts. Oookay... When she asked them to politely move, they just sneered at her, still whistling and blowing bubble-gum bubbles.

Usagi made to turn and leave... only to have a wall of square hair cuts there too. Alright, last resort.

Except.

She gave a nervous laugh.

"Uh... i-is there something I can do?" she couldn't transform, not with all these people watching and not when this could be the work of brainwashing. In fact, Usagi's first fear was that this was the act of the labels and they found her out. She put her hand on her brooch.

Of course, that all quickly changed when she saw scissors, hair pins, and gel in the hands of the people surrounding her.

"How dare you talk to Keytar Mom after we WARNED YOU."

"W-What?"

"And then you had the audacity to talk to her at the charity event and take her food from her!"

"T-That isn't a-actually-" she put up her hands in front of her, trying to calm everyone down.

"If you're going to be near goddess Garnet YOU BETTER BE SQUARE!"

When they opened up their scissors?

Usagi quite calmly, eloquently, and rationally...

Let out a massive, loud, and incredibly shrill scream of panic, and kicked one of them in the face.

That had opened up the wall of people and Usagi used it as her chance, since she honestly couldn't risk transforming until she was out of sight. If she could just get around the corner! She let out another scream when she felt her head yanked back as they grabbed one of her tails. She turned around only to be slammed up against a wall.

"Don't do this!" forget it! She'd transform in public! She wasn't going to allow herself to have them attack her like this. Now if only she could reach her brooch! "GET THOSE AWAY FROM MEEEEE!"

B: Afternoon (After the Attack)

Were you looking for Usagi at "Thistle Do Nicely?" If you were, you will be promptly informed by Mrs. Ophelia that any and all information regarding her employees is not available and then would leave it at that. Which is to say, once 'Serena' explained what happened (looking a bit worse for wear but with all her hair quite intact) the older woman took it upon herself to protect her employee.

If you're very thorough, however, you'll find Usagi hiding in a booth at "Brad's Diner" far far away from the diner door and curled up with her third triple-chocolate, chocolate-chip milkshake.

Her hair was not in its usual buns, mostly because in the fray it had all come undone and she was basically hiding in her hair.

Or maybe you're not looking for Usagi, maybe you just came in to Brad's because the food, while greasy, was filling and the waitress Diana was gorgeous and a flirt.

In either case, there was still a giant river of golden hair attached to the head of someone hiding within it and making an impressive dent in her now fourth milkshake (this time strawberry).

Stepping on or near her hair seems to draw the hair monster to instantly shriek and shudder and try and pull all that hair closer.

C: Late Afternoon (Also After the Attack)

After six milkshakes and given plenty of time to fix her hair back into the two buns, Usagi finally made her way back to the flower store. She had to, she had a "family" to provide for and more importantly, she didn't want to let Mrs. Ophelia down. While Usagi didn't know if Terra celebrated Valentine's Day, the flower store was clearly gearing up for something.

While Mrs. Ophelia said that Usagi was more than welcome to go home with pay, Usagi didn't feel right doing that to the older woman.

So you will find Usagi right in front of the flower shop where Mrs. Ophelia can keep an eye on her and anything that should happen, passing out a single blue paper-origami 'Forget Me Not' with a ribbon around it with a simple tag "Don't Forget!" tied to it.

"All this week, Thistle Do Nicely is having a sale! Take this coupon inside and with the purchase of a bouquet today, get your next bouquet on your next visit half off!" she's trying to put a true smile behind it, but those who know Usagi or "Serena Lapin" better will know that it isn't sincere, it doesn't reach her eyes and please be so kind as not to mention that Usagi's clothes are somewhat... well... torn and snipped.

"Yes you could have!" she frowned and realized she was making a scene, never mind that everything was a scene to begin with. She lowered her voice but there was no less urgency. Regardless of whether or not the mission in general was less dangerous, Usagi wasn't going to let the kid ignore their own safety.

"You are to get the authorities from now on! You could have gotten hurt and then what? Better to deal with the authorities than have you injured! I would never have forgiven myself!" she crouched down.

"Listen to me you have to promise to never do that again. Please?" she insisted, not wanting Frisk to get hurt. She already had issue with kids getting involved. She knew that their were children who had magic, even her own daughter could fight, but there were better ways. "You can't just jump in like that!"

Frisk considers the matter before shaking their head. There's parts of that they agree with, but not the whole thing.

The police would want to know who we were and where we came from. It would draw attention, and Silver said to lay low. I'm not more important than saving everyone. They entirely expect to get hurt in the course of this. Maybe crazy fangirls isn't a danger they anticipated, but they're not going to pull off something like this unscathed. The most they can hope for is no deaths, because that would really suck.

Anyway, they aren't going to just run away and let their friends fight alone. They've always been the one to handle those things before; it only makes sense. I won't start any fights. But I know how to take care of it if I get hurt.

She pressed her lips together and shook her head. Stubborn children, why did it always have to be stubborn children.

"If you can't promise such a thing, then I ask you never help me again," it was an extreme, yes, but Usagi would not risk a child's life for her own.

"I'm not more important than your life, either." She held up a hand to stop any debate. "And if you do try something like that again, I will stop everything I'm doing to get you back to safety." Just like she did now. "I don't mean starting fights, don't misunderstand. And don't think I won't keep my promise, I will not let you get hurt like that." She sighed, she knew she likely wasn't giving this girl enough credit. Maybe she was like Chibiusa and Chibi Chibi.

"Even if you can protect yourself or fight, I'm not going to let you do it for me or for anyone I know."

Holding up a hand is a quick gesture when they're not speaking aloud right now, but Frisk still patiently waits until she's done talking. It's only fair.

It doesn't strike them as very fair that they're being treated like a little kid now, by someone who doesn't even know them. It's not that they're especially attached to the idea of getting in fights; they avoid that as much as they can. A long time ago they'd probably have loved to have someone like this with them. But they've grown up since then. They didn't come on the rescue mission to not help, and helping is obviously going to be dangerous.

I came here to do it for my friends. If the mission gets messed up I'll be in as much trouble as everybody. They don't mind people helping them, but it's not worth it if it screws everything else up. They're the one who'd have to go all the way back to the start. That's what they'll do if Usagi gets herself killed trying to protect them too, so really it all ends the same as their own deaths anyway.

You're nice to worry, and I won't help you if you don't want. This may or may not be true. Now that they've seen her fight, they feel better about leaving her to it, at least. But rescuing people from kidnappers isn't safe.

"No, it isn't safe, which is why I can't agree with you being here," she sighed. But the kid was here. Frisk might be saving loved ones just like Chibiusa had gone back in time to save her own home. She sighed as she looked at Frisk.

Stubborn children, why was it always stubborn children? Not that Usagi could handle stubborn adults any better, but she always felt like she did such a bad job with kids. Mamoru was always better with kids than her, Makoto-chan too. She rested her elbow on her knee and her chin in her palm.

"But you're going to do it anyways..." she sighed again. Her day was pretty terrible and now this? She'd definitely like to restart it. She bowed her head and her hair spilled all over the ground.

"You're very brave for doing all this," she gave a small honest smile, but was quite upset to see this little kid here in the first place. She stood up.

"Where were you headed before you even jumped into all this?"

Frisk shrugs. They weren't heading anywhere in particular. I like to walk around. It's good to know where things are; there's a lot of places they know they can hide now, if anything were ever to happen. Once it would have taken them a few resets to pick up that kind of knowledge. They just don't have the luxury now.

She's obviously still upset. There's not a lot they can do about the real reason. They're not going home. So instead, Frisk offers a hand up. Let's walk together.

She smiled and let out a resigned sigh as she stood up and held out her hand.

"Do you like flowers? I work at a flower shop. For being so brave you can pick out any flower you want, my treat. It's the very least I can do for such bravery."

Frisk's expression flickers for a moment. Their relationship with flowers is a little complicated.

But they quickly turn their smile back on and nod. It's not that they don't like them, after all. Flowers are pretty! Thanks, they send along. My dad grows flowers.

"Ah he does? My best friend back home wanted to own her own flower shop. She taught me a lot about what she knows about them, that's why I even thought to take the job. I'm not good at anything otherwise," she laughed, waving a dismissive hand. "Just sleeping and eating, my two favorite hobbies," she laughed.

"What kind of flowers does he grow?"

He likes golden ones. Frisk shrugs. But not buttercups. They're poison. They don't know exactly what the other flowers are called - everyone just says "golden flowers". They're from the surface, so it makes sense that maybe they never knew at all. Lately, that type hasn't been as everywhere anyway.

Ever since we came up from the Underground there's a lot more kinds he can get. Most of the new ones aren't grown yet.

Buttercups were poisonous? She didn't know that. Maybe they were just poisonous in her world?

"Well, we have a few gold ones, goldenrod, daffodils, yellow lilies, and so much more. You can pick out any of those, if you like. Hey, I know! Why don't we get you a little pot and flower seeds and you can grow your own golden flowers!"

Frisk nods with a smile. That sounds fun! They might...pick out some not-golden ones, in the end, though lilies sound nice and non-aggressive. Either way, they can keep a few flower pots at each of the rescuer apartments they spend time at. That sounds fun.

"Ah, there," she said, glad to see Frisk smile as they were only a block from her work now. "You have a really nice smile. Ah, I don't think I ever got your name, actually."

It's Frisk. What's yours?

They display the phone with a quizzical smile. They remember a lot of names from the trip on the ship - even if they didn't talk to a lot of people there, they're good at listening. They're not sure about her, though, and either way it's more polite to do real introductions.

"Frisk?"

Was that their actual name or the one that Silver and Gold gave?

"Ah well," she looked around and leaned down. "My name is Usagi Tsukino," she whispered before standing back up. "See, Serena!" she said a bit louder so anyone nearby could hear, she gestured to the name tag on her work apron and winked.

"Serena Lapin. Cute right?"

That is cute! It sounds like a character from one of Alphys's animes.

Frisk smiles and fishes out their own ID - one which labels them Sam Freudenberger. It also claims that they're a few years older than they obviously are. Well, they weren't going to be able to fend for themself at ten. Like, legally.

"Sam, well, come on in, Sam."

She said with a smile as she opened up the door of the shop for her.
