Ryouta really likes basketball (and cute boys, but it's a toss up which he likes more)
Who: Ryouta Kise and Kai Takese (AKA Tetsuya Kuroko)
What: Two boys playing basketball
When: Saturday, February 13th
Where: The basketball court near Virgo HQ's beach.
Warnings: These boys really like basketball. Perhaps too much
"Kai!" Ryouta calls, waving and beaming when the other boy comes into view. He had showed up early to shoot some warm up hoops.
He had been looking forward to this so much. He played against McFly, and that had been easy to win. Nariko had been fun, but he knew he would outstrip her now.
He didn't think Kai would be that much of a challenge, though he probably knew the basics well enough, but there was a familiarity there. Other than looking exactly like his muse. But the way he moved, his low presence. Something was just... Ryouta didn't have a word for it.
And he was cute. And seemed nice. This wasn't a date though. Maybe? Well, that was to be determined. Right now he was going to play basketball. And that was what was important. Because there was nothing more fun than basketball.
He sunk a basket and beamed at Kai. "Are you ready to play?"

He sunk a basket and beamed at Kai. "Are you ready to play?"
no subject
He steps onto the court with a very slight smile.
"I'm ready when you are."
Of course he does remember that this is a good opportunity to fish for more information that could be useful to the rescue team. And he'll do that. After they play.
no subject
And of course, he now had his ability to copy moves too. Which he just did instinctively, copying a move from... Kasamatsu-senpai? in his memory. A quick turn around and basket.
This made him pause. How had he known that? Instinct made him look at Kai. But then, why would the other boy know anything about that. He shook his head. "Sorry, brain fart." He paused the ball to Kuroko. "Your ball, for now anyways.

But that's dangerous. He knows it is. What if Kise didn't believe him? That would make it too difficult to keep in contact with him. It's too risky. If it was just himself at stake, he might take the chance. But Kuroko has to think of the other rescuers too. The longer they can stay off the radar, the better.
So for a while, he just lets himself enjoy the game. Even if the brainwashing works as a fairly effective handicap, Kise is still a formidable opponent. Especially when Kuroko is trying not to use any of his showier moves. Things like the vanishing drive and the phantom shot would raise a lot of questions. Questions he hasn't decided how to answer yet. In that strange shared dream... at least he thinks it was shared, it had seemed less crucial to be careful. But now there are good reasons to proceed with caution.
Maybe it's the adrenaline, or the excitement, or just a need to always give his best on the court, but towards the end of the game he breaks out the vanishing drive. He's already past Kise and making the shot before he realizes his mistake. The shot goes in, so there's a part of him that's happy about that. The rest of him is busy gauging Kise's reaction.

He put his hand to his head. "I knew I wasn't going crazy. When Xan took me that game, the players didn't have special moves. It was... it wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but until then I enjoyed the games I saw on TV..."
He's babbling, he knows it. "Super powers are real aren't they?"
no subject
Fairly he'd already ignored about half of the guidelines they'd been given but he doesn't think he can get out of this one without telling Kise something. Well, he can start by answering the question.
"They are."
Never mind basketball, he's seen his fellow rescuers do some pretty amazing things that he could really only call super powers.
"But that doesn't really apply to what I just did."
He thinks of his own moves more as tricks or techniques.
no subject
Maybe... maybe...
"You're a superhero!" Ryouta beamed. "And you saved me before, haven't you? I remember, I mean it's fuzzy, but I remember you doing that!"
This makes total sense.
"Don't worry Kaicchi, I'll keep your secret safe!"
no subject
He really has no response for that. It's so unexpected, so absurd, that for a moment all he can do blink at Kise in surprise.
A superhero? Him? Really? The strangest image flashes in his head of the entire Generation of Miracles dressed up like some kind of sentai team. And on top of that, Kise looks so sure and so excited about the prospect that Kuroko just can't help it. He laughs. It's quiet, more like a chuckle, but he's definitely laughing. He raises a hand to cover his mouth even as he apologizes.
"Sorry. But I just..."
He composes his expression and shakes his head.
"I think that might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard."
no subject
"I don't know. I think you kinda are a hero," he murmurs. But he doesn't know why.
Kise had always looked up to Kuroko. He might not have respected him at first, but there was a reason Kuroko was the player that Kise had his eye on.
That and other reasons. Reasons Ryouta vaguely recalled.
... "I've been noticing that I've been picking things up faster than normal." He said, changing the subject. "Like my eyesight has gotten more... I don't want to say better, but better at taking things in?"
no subject
"I appreciate the thought, but... I don't recall doing anything very heroic..."
Although, he supposes that agreeing to hop on a guitar shaped spaceship to rescue a friend might be considered heroic. He'll consider it a lot more heroic if he succeeds. The change of subject is both timely and interesting. So Kise has his copy ability back?
"Better at copying what you see?"
He supplies the word copy on purpose, just to see if it rings a bell.
no subject
He stays quiet for a moment.
"Yes." He said simply. He took the ball and shoots it, making the basket easily. "Ever since I went to the game with Xanxus I've been able to... copy moves I see. Not just basketball moves. Dance moves." He smiles. "I have the highest score for DDR at the Star Walk Arcade."
no subject
"That's a handy skill to have. Very dangerous on the court."
He knows that from experience.
"Actually... given your talent for basketball, have you ever considered pursuing that instead of music?"
He should probably not be steering the conversation in a risky direction like this while the rescuers are trying so hard to escape notice, but if he can jog any more of Kise's memories it will be worth it.
no subject
Except now that he was saying it... it sounded... false. He couldn't explain. "Music seemed an easier escape from my father."
He tried to remember his father. The stern blond man, but it's... just not coming.
no subject
And a lot that were entirely less endearing. But let's not think about those right now. Instead, lets slip in a sort of leading question. And since Kise brought up the subject of family, Kuroko is curious.
"Your father is very strict then? Do you have any sisters?"
He said 'sisters' and not 'siblings' just to see if that sparked a memory.
no subject
He hopes Kai didn't hear that. He pounces on the subject change.
"He is. He wanted me to stay a model, and I wasn't allowed to have much in the way of a social life... In fact, I didn't have one outside of the galas I was allowed to go to."
But the image of his father is blurry, being replaced with another, one that's becoming clearer. Instead of someone strict he's seeing someone smiling, backing cookies that always burnt, and getting excited over boardgames.
He shakes his head. "Sisters? No I'm an...."
Now he's imagining two beautiful women, two of the most beautiful women in his world. Older then him by a fair bit, but loving, spoiling him with their love.
"I need to sit down."
So he sits on the ground.
no subject
Right now Kuroko is more worried that maybe he's pushing Kise to remember things a little too fast. He kneels down next to the blonde and puts a tentative hand on his shoulder.
"Are you alright? You look pale...."
no subject
Kise looked up at Kai. "Just had a flash of some sort. It happens." He tries for a smile.
"Sorry to worry you Kaicchi."
no subject
In all honestly sudden flashes of memory is probably a good sign. But he's still worried. After all, this must be confusing and probably even frightening to the person experiencing it.
"There's a bench over there. Maybe you should rest for a while."
He also feels juuust a little guilty. Maybe he shouldn't push him so hard.
no subject
Like you, he doesn't say. But Kuroko was his first memory.
He sits on the bench and cracks open one of the water bottles he brought.
no subject
Joining him on the bench, Kuroko studies Kise's face curiously.
"Then was that flash inspiring at all?"
no subject
Never before had the flashes really contradicted his life with such magnitude. The others, with the guys with the weird hair colors, and the pain they went through, had always hit home in his heart.
This. This contradicted his family.
"No. Not at all. Just weird."
And left him feeling homesick.
no subject
Kuroko knows he should probably stop fishing. Better to let Kise deal with his returning memories at his own pace. But he can't help asking just one more question.
"Do you have any idea what causes them?"
no subject
He traced the hem of his basketball shorts.
"No idea. I just thought they were creative impulses."
no subject
"In that case, they can't be all bad. Your songs have certainly benefited."
Actually, he's been listening to a lot of Surviving Friday's music since he got here and has come to genuinely like it. Even though it is still a tiny bit embarrassing that some of the songs are about him.
no subject
He stood. "Let me get some water and we can keep going?"
He was already feeling better. He didn't know what to do with this new vision. He... he had no idea what was going on, but he felt like it was best to ignore it at this time.
no subject
For now, Kuroko is going to avoid any more leading questions or probing comments. He's probably pushed farther than he should today anyway. For now he'll just enjoy playing basketball with Kise. The rest can be saved for another day.
