There's nothing like winter in the city

Who: Kido and Yuffie and maybe others
What: Drunk Trauma Affair
When: February 15/16
Where: A bar in HQ/the Carnie penthouse
Warnings: ... it's a drunk trauma affair.

Everything fucking sucks. This is how Kido will forever see life after the last couple of weeks. The ghosts, the torture, the fact that she still has to perform when all she wants to do is hide... worrying about her bandmates, worrying about her friends, worrying about the people in Virgo who could just disappear and she'd never know.

Kido's got a lot on her plate. Which is why she is, at this very late hour, drinking more alcohol than she probably should be drinking. It's not working. After a certain point it stopped being any fun or relaxing and just made her stupid.

Granted she's always stupid which is why it looks like she's trying to pull a bad Aragorn impression, hiding in the corner with her drink, her hood up high over her eyes. She's trying to not be seen while also trying to disappear. She doesn't realize in a label full of show offs, exactly how much that makes her stand out.

Now Yuffie hasn't exactly been dealing with things well in the slightest. She's been breezing about, trying to show that she's fine mostly to keep the big bad witch's eyes off of her and her friends. She's pretty positive it hasn't worked in the slightest. As usual, she's got her neon colored alcohol and her sharp smile, using everything to keep eyes on her. It's easier for a Carnie to disappear into a crowd as a part of it than sit outside of it.

That doesn't stop her from being impossibly tense and her getting very tired of the conversations she's having at the bar. None of them are people she'd consider friends, and none of them are even people she likes. It's starting to irritate her and she nearly takes someone's head off with her words when someone mentions Fetch being fired. She only manages not to by an inch.

Trying to look for an out, any out, she notices Kido and taps her conversation partner, telling him she's got a friend, and leaves.

She's all smiles when she wanders over and drops down next to Kido, but it's not angry edged, it's actually somewhat tired and more honest.

"Now, what's a girl like you doin' in a place like this?"

Kido is startled at first by anyone joining her. Her fight or flight response is immediately triggered and she jerks away from Yuffie before realizing, more slowly than she would have if she was sober, that it's a friend.

She tries to smile back? But she ends up just frowning contemplatively at her drink. "Getting wasted. What's it look like?"

Yuffie doesn't take the flinch as anything bad, she just waits it out, trying to act as if she didn't notice. They're all a little twitchy lately, she's been trying to be good about it. She takes a drink that's probably a bit much considering how much of it is actually vodka and other liquor instead of mixers.

"I dunno, you're actin' all quiet and creeperific in the corner." She pokes Kido in the shoulder. "But still way more fun than Mr. Trying too hard."

She snorts. "Anybody's more fun than a guy who's trying too hard." She says this with extreme bias as she's not even into guys, but whatever. "Couldn't find any better company?"

Than her and a loser guy, she means. She's not really the life of the party and she both knows and embraces this fact. Hell, she and Yuffie barely know each other beyond a weird connection through Xanxus being an asshole and getting tortured...

"I like the company I've got right now, thanks." Yuffie's grin is infectious and a little manic, and she slides further down in her seat.

"Besides. You're not expecting me to be the life of the party."

She's a little sick of trying. She's been being...well, she'd hesitate to call it good. She's been angry and bitter for days and despite some bright spots of hilarity or things like getting to check in on Cloud and Shen, she's not exactly been on top of her game. But then, Kido doesn't expect her to be. She's perfectly aware that Yuffie's angry and wants nothing more than to rip their boss's...Right.

Anyway.

"I wouldn't let the life of the party sit with me, anyway. I don't like people enough for that."

So long as Yuffie doesn't draw a crowd, at least, Kido doesn't mind her being around. She can accept the kinship and she certainly doesn't have any expectations. "Welcome to the quiet corner."

A beat. "A I really being creepy?"

"So does that mean you like me?" Yuffie says with another smile that mostly seems to be made up of teeth.

She takes another drink of her ridiculously pink drink that seems to practically be a different color spectrum than the rest of the bar. For all that Yuffie's seeming to be engaged in pretending her normal level of chaos, she's not dressed as ridiculously as normal, fewer spikes, and she hasn't stuck her hair up.

"You're giving off the don't fuck with me thing." She says flippantly. This, however, is not a bad thing. It's actually something Yuffie tends to enjoy. It's a common trait in her friends.

"I'm normally not too good at that." She tries to give off that vibe but when you're constantly surrounded by children and cute teenagers, it's never going to work. And then even when she's not surrounded by kids, she's got Genos harping on her to take care of herself. Kido takes another drink. There isn't enough of her left to bother taking care of at this point, she's sure.

"But I don't mind it. You being here." She shrugs. "You're decent and it might keep people I don't want around away."

"It's workin' okay. I mean it's kept the more annoying people over there and not here with you." She grins, and then goes to take another drink only to be completely distracted by Kido's choice of words.

"Decent!" Yuffie laughs almost in spite of herself, it spluttering out of her in a ridiculous mess of giggles. She turns sideways on the seat to get a better look at her.

"Decent. Oh, come on Kido, I am totally awesome and you know it!"

"Well as close as the tabloids make us seem, I don't know you well enough for anything more than decent..." She rolls her eyes.

"I have to see proof you're awesome before I admit it."

Yuffie's eyes narrow, and she sets her drink down on the table.

"Hey. I will have you know I am totally a badass."

One, Yuffie is drunk. Two, Yuffie's Ego is already impressive before you add that. Three, she is terrible about challenges.

"What's a girl have to do to prove how awesome she is?"

"If you're that much of a badass, would you really need me to come up with a way to prove it?" She's still in good humor but she senses that spark of tension.

"You totally saw me in peak badass!" She pokes Kido in the shoulder again, hopping up on her knees and being an obnoxious thorn in Kido's side.

She is not going to mention where because she's pretending right now that whole event didn't exactly happen, but oh well.

Oh god don't she leans a little away from her at that, flustered. "I also saw you hanging of Xanxus like a fashion accessory."

"It stopped him, didn't it?" She says with a grin, and then it's as if Yuffie notices that she's getting a reaction and leans in again.

"Not as cool as taking someone out with a Bass, but you know, we've all got our moments."

Oh my god you're lucky she's in a booth or she'd fall off her chair, Yuffie. She looks away, red with embarrassment at that. "If only I took him out. I got my ass kicked. No need to remind me."

"Hey, even epically awesome people like me have gotten their asses kicked before." Yuffie waves that off with a hand, and she continues being a terrible person with a terrible sense of other peoples's boundaries. Her smile continues to be just slightly too sharp and a little too intent.

"Still took a lot of guts."

"A lot of stupidity, maybe. Is there a reason you're so close?" Her personal space, Yuffie. It's personal.

"You're totally blushing." As if that's an answer, because Yuffie considers it one.

And Yuffie makes absolutely no move to get out of said space.

"Of course I am! You're close!" And she can't handle cute girls in her space it's kinda her weakness.

"You say that like that's a bad thing." Yuffie says, entirely faking innocence. She's not very convincing in the slightest, at least not while drunk and fighting a grin.

"You're making fun of me." You make it easy, Kido. But she isn't leaning away any less.

"Only a little." Yuffie shrugs, she may be teasing, but she's mostly playing. She considers Kido a friend which means she mostly just wants to get under her skin the same way she does with most of her friends. Yuffie might have a problem.

"I mean I know what I'd be doing if a totally gorgeous girl was trying to crawl into my lap, but that's just me."

She raises an eyebrow at that. "I didn't realize you were trying to crawl into my lap. I'm not sure I could resist that."

Oh god don't tease her while you're both drunk, Yuffie.

"So you admit it, I am totally gorgeous." Yuffie chooses to believe this is what that means, which means Yuffie is pretty obviously preening.

By this point, Yuffie is pretty much using Kido to sit up, with her elbow on Kido's shoulder and leaning over into her space.

"W-well you're not hard to look at." Why are you on her Yuffie oh my god. "Could have picked way worse to allegedly hook up with."

She will take that as a win. Making someone stutter with her sheer awesomeness is always a win.

"As far as supposed hook ups go, definitely much more of a possibility than the last couple they tried to say I was having."

She has no want to get in the middle of whatever the hell is happening with several of her bandmates, thanks.

If it's a win can you back up Yuffie omg?

"A possibility, huh? I didn't realize I stood a chance."

Yuffie's pauses as if she's thinking about it, when she really is just doing it for show. And this is about the point where Yuffie has officially just draped herself over Kido's shoulder like this is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

"I'd say you have a better chance than most."

"Are you coming on to me?"

Like aside from literally being on her, this is new and different and Kido is so confused? Normally she's the one who has to do the hitting on people. She doesn't know how to react.

"I think so." Yuffie says.

At the moment it seems like a particularly good idea, and she's got no really good argument against it. Granted a good chunk of her brain is a little sidetracked due to being much more drunk than she's been since she got back from their escapade.

"Was that not totally obvious?"

"Couldn't really tell, actually. It doesn't help that you don't seem serious..."

She doesn't really have any reason to have a negative reaction to this while drunk as she is. She certainly isn't pushing Yuffie off.

"Well, you're cute. I'm cute." She ticks the ideas off on her fingers as she goes. "We're both musical badasses with a history of kleptomania."

Yuffie doesn't mention the fact that she has no idea how much of what either of them remembers is real, because that is a crisis for someone much more sober.

"Theft. Not kleptomania." It is an important distinction on Kido's part, though now it seems wrong. And she almost wants to argue the cute part. Kido is not cute and she's well aware of that (and the voice of the blonde boy making fun of her for trying to be echoes in her head). But she lets it slide. "Are you comfortable?"

"Whatever." It is not a particularly big distinction on her part. Either way, they're both sneaky and badass. And that is the important part. She rolls her eyes, but it's good natured. She's having a good time, what can she say. She likes getting reactions from people best. She likes the fact that she can make Kido blush, and it's all good in her particularly buzzed view of things.

"I could be more comfortable?"

She's honestly being a little ridiculous, but she figures they've been through a lot of weird things lately and what's a little flirting between friends?

She sees... much less of a problem with this than she would normally. She just laughs it off for now with a quiet sort of chuckle.

"Then feel free to get as comfortable as you want."

It's a harmless enough statement right?
