A nice dinner

After Luce's win in the bassist competition Doctor decided the band should have a celebratory dinner. They ate dinner together often enough but tonight he requested that their dining room be filled with bouquets, mostly lilies, and strings of lights hung from the ceiling with hanging paper stars. He left deciding on the desired food to Luce without telling her about the decorations, though she might have overheard him whispering to the room service people coming in and out of their suite with deliveries and champagne options.

When the time came Doctor went room to room to announce that dinner had arrived. Rei was out but sure to be home in time and Ivan was nowhere to be found at first until Doctor rechecked the first room he looked in. At last he revealed what he had arranged for "Band Mom."

"In honor of your victory, Luce."

It's moments like these that assure Luce she's absolutely made all the right choices in her life up until these moments. She'd never get to experience this thing stuck in Europa, pretending to be a frankly not very good nun. Not just the expensive atmosphere or the beautifully made food, but the fact that she knows this is all done specially for her.

It's hard to imagine any of the other bands being this close and genuine.

She's practically glowing from joy at Doctor's little reveal. "Oh, it was just a little competition," she says, still trying not to get too full of herself despite the temptation. "I still have a lot of practice to do."

Rei's running a little late, and had gotten the text a little later than everyone else because she'd had her phone off. She hadn't wanted to be disturbed, after all...but when she'd gotten back on the metro and was on her way back? She'd practically choked when she realized the time, and here she was wandering in. Just a little bit flushed from jogging down the hall.

And darn it, just in time for the main event! But...she can transition. Peeling off the sunglasses and pulling out the rubberband that held her hair up, she was back to normal, and smiling just as widely as Doctor. Nevermind that she's a little red-faced and late...just concentrate on...

"I heard it, Luce. It was lovely. Seriously, you earned the accolades."

Ivan was putting the finishing touches on the article he framed when the Doctor first enters the room, and when the Doctor returns, Ivan places the frame on a table near some lilies room service brought in.

"I wish I could have been there in person," he says to Luce. However, Ivan had been occupied elsewhere. Maybe he had to take that photo for the Know Your Notes article. Maybe he just oversleep. Whatever the reason, he had to listen and watch recordings of the Bass Off. He can't deny that he's impressed with Hidari bringing a bass banjo to the competition, as someone who plays a shamisen in a music scene lacking in them. Though ultimately, his loyalties lays with Luce, and she was incredible.

Ivan also shoots Rei a curious look, but he doesn't comment on her state for now. Let her better catch her breath first.

"Yes, next time there's a bass off I want to be there. In fact if any of you end up in a competition give me a call and I will come running! I don't get to cheer for you all from the audience nearly often enough."

As much time as he spends demanding endless repetitions and practice, picking at even the most minute details, Doctor beams proudly at each one of them in moments like these.

"Glad you could make it," he quickly adds, to Rei. Then to Ivan, "And great idea, framing that article!"

Dinner with her bandmates is always a special occasion for Pao-Lin, but this is especially wonderful to her. Luce is an amazing person (as is the rest of her band, but tonight is Luce's special night) and a talented musician, and Pao-Lin is so happy for her! She...is also quite happy about the special food, and may have made a beeline for it before Doctor officially announced to Luce what it was for.

"Luce, you have to try this cake!" Pao-Lin insists. "It's sooo good!"
