☆TRACK I: NOTHING LEFT OF YOU

Who: Every single one of you.
What: Interstellar's first log, and an awards ceremony for jerks you don't know!
When: October 2nd.
Where: A fancy ballroom in neutral territory.
Warnings: Could be anything.

“Oh, it's been getting so hard,
Living with the things you do to me;
My dreams are getting so strange,
I'd like to tell you everything I see.

I see a man at the back as a matter of fact,
His eyes are as red as the sun.
And the girl in the corner lets no one ignore her,
‘Cause she thinks she's the passionate one.”

☆NOTHING LEFT OF YOU

It’s the seasonal Vista Music Industry Award Gala, and attendance is mandatory. You and your band have been touring non-stop for the last two months, hitting locations all over Americana, performing and doing press appearances. This event is set less than three days after your return home, but it’s been made clear that further rest will have to wait.

Though Halloween technically isn’t until the end of the month, the gathering has a formal masquerade theme - masquerade that is, not costume. Dressing up as a mummy or a clown isn’t going to cut it. Themed formal wear is expected, and your image consultants have been pestering you about your choices for the last 48 hours. Whether or not you listen to them, how you dress feels incredibly important. At least if you let the consultants fuss over you, you can be sure it’ll be something press friendly.

Various awards are being given out, but none of them are for you. The media in attendance are starting to bubble with enthusiasm for the ‘rising stars’ of the industry, however, so this could be a moment to shine. Labels besides Pride and Virgo are also in attendance, but who cares about those guys? They seem to be a mere footnote in comparison to the buzz around the heavy hitters.

There’s food, alcohol, dancing, stage performances by notable musicians of both Pride and Virgo, and then the formal awards ceremony in the evening. Yes, you are expected to sit through them. Do try to look like you’re interested, the media is watching.

☆PRIDE RECORDS
Lesedi Santiago doesn’t always make a big deal about introductions - or at least, that’s the impression you get when she just kind of shows up in your group limousine unannounced on your way over to the party. Deep into pre-drinking a bottle of gin, she doesn’t talk with you so much as talk at you, regaling your band with weird stories about the industry while completely ignoring the fact that her presence is more intimidating than comforting. You’re not sure if it’s intentional, but at least she’s a good story teller - her speech doesn’t seem to be at all affected by the quantity of booze she’s already consumed, which is kind of bizarre if you think about it too deeply. You’re not inclined to.

You’ve all met her before, here and there, in a series of bombastic encounters. Her interest in pontificating at you and the other new label inductees seems to fade immediately upon entering the ballroom, as she quickly becomes distracted with more high profile guests. Her attention fixates on Edward Blanch from time to time, but she declines to address him specifically. If you want to get some of her one on one attention, now could be your chance - just make sure you go in ready. Handling Miss Santiago can be a bit of an...experience.

Veteran Pride members are in attendance as well, but most of them are not very good company. Their reactions vary from ‘frat members greeting a new pledge’ to ‘disinterested shoulder pats’, and ultimately it will seem your attention is better received by the other newbies. Maybe even the Virgo Entertainment stiffs, at that.

Because, of course, that crew is here as well. Lesedi suggested you “show them who’s boss,” but you’re not necessarily sure what that’s supposed to mean.

☆VIRGO ENTERTAINMENT
Tonight's event is one of considerable speculation: it marks Edward Blanche's first public appearance after a considerable period of isolation. He's a private man, a mystery and an enigma to the public, and that just seems to make him all the more intoxicating. The Managers and security staff are out in full force, and if you know what's good for you, you'll be dressed to the nines. Your image consultant will be almost desperate to do the work for you, like they're afraid of what might happen to their careers if you embarass the label on their watch.

Personal style is important, but everything in your gut tells you that your nose has got to be clean this time, or trouble is sure to follow. For many of you, this will be the first time you'll ever have seen your CEO in person, and as such, the first time he'll encounter you one on one. If you're going to brown nose, now's the time - but make sure you choose your words carefully, and don't waste his time. Blanche has little patience for it.

There are veteran musicians of the Virgo label in attendance, ones with dozens of awards to their names, but they seem to have little interest in speaking with you. Some are politely avoidant while others and just rudely dismissive, but none of them really give an answer for why they just aren't interested. It's not totally surprising - Virgo's interior politics are harsh.

Other notable guests include Lesedi Santiago and the rest of the Pride Records entourage. Though you may have acquaintances, or even friends, who have been snatched up by the other side, it's even more likely that you have enemies. Everything about your Virgo upbringing makes you feel like you should hold a certain contempt for their ilk - people in this label think of them as classless at best and crass maniacs at worst.

Did you hear about that disgusting stunt one of their front runners pulled on stage last week? Revolting.

☆THE TWIST
Some of you may remember strange events from the past few weeks. Misplaced objects, malfunctioning technology, nostalgic phantom music - it feels a lot like the last portion of your tour was haunted. Now that you're back home, all of that seems to be flaring up again. You can practically feel the otherworldly presences passing through the room, even if nobody besides your tour group seems to notice. Even though they aren't knocking glasses off tables and flickering lights like last time, their presence is somehow even more apparent.

Your programming makes one thing clear: don't make a public fuss about this. Ignore it, everything's fine. The second part only goes so far. Especially when, at some point or another, you'll be shaken by the feeling that one of these ghosts has walked straight through you. For that moment, you feel like a totally different person. At this point, one of four memory regain effects will occur:

► REMEMBER LOVE: You remember a scene, image, or concept related to one of the greatest loves of your past life. Can be either romantic, platonic, or familial. It must be about a person and not a place or activity, though.

► REMEMBER DUTY: You remember a scene, image, or concept related to something you held a great sense of duty or loyalty to in your past life. It could be a person, a cause, a country, or anything in between.

► REMEMBER PASSION: You remember a scene, image, or concept related to something you were passionate about to the point of anger or determination in your past life. Not enjoyment of, but something that drove you, or one of the things most likely to make you throw a punch.

► REMEMBER HOPE: You remember a scene, image, or concept related to something you dreamed about making come true, or an important hope you had for the future in your past life. This covers any kind of positive goal or ambition for you or the world around you.

The feeling will quickly fade, leaving you as the person you've been made into once again. Only now you have something new: the first fragment of a life you can't remember having lived. The CEOs and managers will react to this eventually, and you're probably going to get sent home early. This, however, will be covered with a top level further into the log.

“I'm reaching out for something,
Touching nothing's all I ever do.
Oh, I softly call you over;
When you appear there's nothing left of you.”

[It's kinda nice that Yosuke immediately gets it. Even more than Sora really had, though now that Yosuke puts it into words, it fits, and his] Yeah... [in response is one of quiet revelation. It's a momentary distraction from the fact that Yosuke had... well got it so easily. A fact that comes back to him after he spends a quiet moment recalling those two friends he hadn't ever actually met.]

Oh... That's pretty weird, huh? How'd you know, anyway?
punchesyu: (Saki-senpai is gone)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-08 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He looks around for a moment, to make sure no one was listening in.]

Because... [It was hard to talk about, because it hadn't been so pleasant.] I had something like that happen to me too. Except...

What I saw...wasn't a nice sandy beach. [And if anything, Yosuke looks horribly upset just thinking about it.]

[Yosuke's sudden inclination to make sure they aren't overheard makes Sora momentarily paranoid too, though he's not sure why. He gives a quick glance around as well, anyway.

It becomes clear without him having to say anything that Yosuke's "dream" had been a lot less pleasant. But it apparently had felt just as real. So there's a lot more concern from Sora now. He'd be hesitant to push, but considering Yosuke had already offered up even as much as he has, it makes him think maybe he wants to talk about it, but there's still a lot of emotion there so it's hard for him?
]

It was bad? [This is all he asks as a prompt, though. An easy out, just say "Yes" and be done with it, if Yosuke felt the need to take it. Or, Sora was there to listen if he wanted to talk about it.]
punchesyu: (no i can't be funny this part was sad)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Some girl...

[He chokes on the words a little. It was a painful memory, one that he didn't understand, which made it worse. Even now, he can feel dread in his heart for some strange reason.]

I don't even know who she is. But she's dead. Do you... [He corrects himself-] did you know anyone by the name Saki Konishi?

[He asks, hoping that maybe he did know. That maybe he'd get some kind of information that could help him figure out who she was, where she used to live.]

[That's worse than Sora had thought it would be, he feels bad now for having sat here talking about the beach and friends and hope... When Yosuke's weird dream experience was something so terrible. Someone dying.

But just like Sora, Yosuke didn't actually know who the girl was, other than her name. (Which was more than Sora had gotten, though he feels like maybe the names were said, he just hadn't been able to hold onto them.) Yet even though Yosuke didn't recognize her name, it was clear there was pain attached to the experience. So they both had genuine feeling attached to something that neither of them remembered happening. Weird.

It only takes a second of thought for him to realize he doesn't recognize the name either. Which is a bit of a relief to him, since she'd died. But still. He shakes his head sadly.
] No... I'm sorry. I can help you ask around, though! [The hint of optimism in that offer, a Sora trademark.]

[He pauses for a second, turning his head to look up at the high ceilings.] It felt... kind of weirdly important, right? [His had.]

punchesyu: (no srsly he's gunna do this gais)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-12 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[The other name attached to it- The Midnight Channel- he doesn't bring up. If Sora didn't know who this Saki girl was, then he probably wouldn't know about the other thing. It seemed so obscure, and he tries not to get sucked back into replaying that memory through his mind again. But he can't help it, and his eyes fall as he lets himself relive that pain again.

A pain, that by all means, shouldn't even exist.

He answers his bandmate, his friend- softly, unable to look the other teen in the eye.]

Yeah. Important enough that I can't let it go. It's like it means the entire world to me. Like it...

[His voice trails off. He's not sure how to explain it, as he tries to search for the words.]

Like it lights this fire inside me that I can't explain. What about yours? [He asks quickly, turning to Sora now.] What's it for you? I mean, this is...this is crazy.

[All the weird paranormal stuff that had been happening, now this...plus it was more than just one person suffering from it. He wonders about it, and a small part of him is excited by it too.]

[For Sora, there was an inclination that was still telling him to push his own weird "dream" aside, at least for the moment. But there was also such a strong connection to the people in it that he really didn't want to let their images go, and he wouldn't. But the itch to find their names, to figure out who they were, where they were. Well, it was considerably lessened by the fact that all of it sort of made his head hurt.

He thinks all of this through for a minute, brow creased in serious consideration.
]

It's... It's really important, those people are really important. And I don't want to forget them. And though I don't know their names or where they are, or even if they really exist, I guess that feels less important to me than the feeling they gave me. How those people make me feel. That's what's important, and I'm gonna hold on to that... Even if it doesn't really make a lot of sense.

[He laughs a little at the end of this, finally looking back over to Yosuke, even if he won't meet his eye.] It is pretty crazy. Think they put something in the water? [It's less a question and more just a joke, an attempt to lighten the heavy mood a little bit.]
punchesyu: (man i don't even know what to name this)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Bro, I dunno. But whatever it is, it's seriously freaking me out. It would be a lot easier to forget about it. [A beat.]

But I can't.

[He scratches his head.]

Uuggghhhh, this is making my brain hurt! This is way too weird! Guess there's not much we can do about it now...let's just go back to the ceremony for now. Maybe something else'll come to us that will make more sense.
consocius: Any icons that are by me are safe to take, except for this one please! (say.)

[personal profile] consocius 2015-10-17 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[There's definitely genuine sympathy here. Sora's with him on the brain hurting bit. And the not being able to forget, though that seemed to be less of a problem for Sora than for Yosuke. Which made sense, considering the nature of the memories.]

Yeah, we should probably watch the rest of it, it'll probably be over soon.

[Quickly though, he turns back to Yosuke, leaning in slightly to be heard.] Don't worry about forgetting, okay? Maybe we're not supposed to forget, even if it would be easier. I'm gonna remember the name you said, too. [He repeats it slowly:] Saki... Konishi. We'll figure it out eventually.
punchesyu: (makin' up stories)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-18 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. We will. We'll figure out this beach thing for you too.

[He sighs. It's just a mess in his head and his heart hurt more than words could explain.]

When we get back to the penthouse later, I think I'll go online and see what I can find. If you can remember anything more about your dream, maybe we can look it up. There's gotta be stuff on the internet. There isn't anything you can't find there.

[Like how Yosuke finds his pronz, for example.]
consocius: Any icons that are by me are safe to take, except for this one please! (ponder.)

[personal profile] consocius 2015-10-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Either Yosuke is better at using the internet than Sora is, or maybe they're around the same level. Sora can navigate social media and an online search and that's about it. And he's better at the former than the latter.]

Yeah... Maybe I'll get lucky and dream about it again soon, too. [This is what he's hoping. Not just to get more information about it, but also because it had been really nice. Though, if he stopped to think about it, he actually hadn't been remembering the majority of the dreams he'd had lately. That was kinda new.] So I can get their names. Do you think just knowing what they look like would be enough? I think all three of us were a little younger than I am now...
punchesyu: (where is that stupid bear)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-20 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, if you know who they are, maybe you could look up the people you graduated with from high school. Uh...did you graduate? I mean, I didn't. I didn't have to.

[He says, like it isn't that big of a deal whether Sora did or not. He doesn't even think about his own, or if Saki came from there...the very thought to is dismissed immediately.]
consocius: Any icons that are by me are safe to take, except for this one please! (glance.)

[personal profile] consocius 2015-10-23 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Sora immediately shakes his head.] Nah, I was home-schooled. Had tutors and stuff. [It was kinda necessary when you were travelling all the time for jobs. However, even if Yosuke dismissed the thought about Saki coming from his high school, now that he's brought it up, Sora wonders.]

What about you, though? Could that be a place to start to look for the name you got? Even if you didn't graduate, maybe you still went to school together at some point?
punchesyu: (i wonder if she'll go out with me)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-23 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...

[On Sora's prompt, he thinks, but nothing comes up.]

I really don't remember. You'd think if I knew her and that kinda thing happened, I'd remember who she was. [He waves a hand, to dismiss the idea.] Naw, I couldn't of gone to school with her. Did I?

...I was standing what looked like a school gymnasium in that image...

[He scratches his head.]

Aaaarrhhhhghh!!! I don't know!!!!
consocius: Any icons that are by me are safe to take, except for this one please! (listen.)

[personal profile] consocius 2015-10-23 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sora rests his chin on his hands again, giving his friend a sympathetic look.]

Yeah, it's all... pretty weird. But however important it is though, there's not really anything we can do about it from here, right? Maybe we should try to let it go for now, get back on it when we're home...

[Calling the Pride HQ penthouse this feels... weird, still. But then most places he remembers being had never felt like "home," either, so it's as good a place as any.]

...Would it help if we talked about somethin' else?
punchesyu: (Oh well)

[personal profile] punchesyu 2015-10-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...

[He says in exasperation. This entire night has been a wild ride.]

It might do us both some good to get our minds off of this. Let's get a cold drink while we're at it...and some fresh air. There's a balcony built onto this place, we could go out there and relax.
consocius: ([neutral]; journey)

[personal profile] consocius 2015-10-26 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'd like that.

[He speaks as he gets up, does a full body stretch too. Then shifts from one foot to the other as he waits for Yosuke, tapping the points of his shoes against the ground one after the other like he's adjusting his feet in them or something. It's a habitual move more than anything.]

I wonder if we'll be able to see stars out there tonight. Sometimes it's hard with all the lights in the city. But looking at the sky can be pretty relaxing.

[For Sora at least, it always makes his problems feel a little smaller, not as insurmountable.]
