Press events? Not happening. Concerts? Cancelled. Going out at all? N o p e.

Everyone- well every newbie- is ball and chained to Virgo Entertainment's headquarters for the time being. What's the emergency? No one knows, but you're all stuck here regardless.

Not at all. You know Virgo, always top quality for everything, including the pans. And when I said "bring me salmon" they brought the expensive stuff! Even Pao-Lin should be satisfied with the size of this fish.

[He takes a seat in the chair at her bedside.]

You've probably heard this multiple times today from Angel but how are you feeling?

I've heard it enough from Angel that I think I have her check in times committed to memory. It was a little swoon. Thanks to Krieg, it's a lot better than it could have been.

[Her head didn't crack onto the floor or anything. Frankly, she's glad for it.]

I think she's just overly worked up because of the lockdown. What about you?

She probably is. I don't blame her. Being stuck in here so long has us all antsy. She's just as disappointed as we are about the cancelled performances.

At least I've finished some songs. I even started a little collaboration with Luci from Carnival Junkyard. We intend to make a viral video so the bosses can't scold us for collaborating across company lines.

Ooooh, cross-label collab. Devious and delightful, I'm all for it. I was actually talking about Weasel for something similar before I got grounded. What do you think?

I would love to do something with the other bands here at Virgo. Defying Atmosphere especially. I'd like to exchange notes on how to properly rock and bring the symphonic element to that. [He maaaay have been writing a few songs on the side fit for symphonic metal, waiting for the day to slip them to Greg.]

Still waiting to hear about Ivan. I hope he received his own sort of spiritually-comforting vision-light. I don't know how he could if Juno dragged him far from the basement.

[Hearing about Ivan seems to drain some of the casual cheer from Luce, and she glances down to her food.]

...Do you think he'll be alright?

Of course. Ivan knows how to take care of himself. Juno should have seen to his well being too.

[The entire thing bothers him but he'll try to be the optimist.]

You should worry more about all the minds we're going to blow with the newest songs I've written! [He playfully whispers despite nobody else being in the room.] I especially hope to blow Yan's mind out his ears. He was being rude to me earlier and good music is the best revenge.

[There's a lot she's not sure about. The kinds of things he'd been talking about... Were those things that could be helped so easily? Still, she supposes it's... best if she stays optimistic as well. So she lets the subject shift, huffing out another laugh.]

Of course it is. So you two really aren't getting along, are you?

We were. Or I thought we were. I was just minding my business, checking out some fun little things I'd like to purchase. -I thought I'd decorate my room a bit to pass the time. He thought my tastes were a sign of immaturity and lack of intelligence. [He was looking at ads for kids stuff. Typical.]

So I informed him about my IQ level and musical accomplishments and the next thing I knew he was insulting me. Telling me that my music is nothing special- and he hasn't even HEARD it by the way- assuming I'm in it for the money, and saying I'm wasting my intelligence doing nothing more than any other artist in this industry. Who is he to judge? And what kind of musician is he if he doesn't think that music is a worthy aspiration?

[This entire rant involves flailing arms and a lot of fidgeting.]

[And Luce makes sure to lean away the entire time. Don't want to accidentally get hit and make Angel more stressed.]

Anything else you'd like to rant about in regards to him?

[She can listen all day, it's a talent.]

Yes! I'd like to say that... [ He pauses to put the dozens of frustrated thoughts running through his head into words. Then he starts to pace in circles. ] I am disappointed! Clearly I've been spoiled by all the kind, thoughtful artists I've met during my time at Virgo. As it turns out I have been too optimistic when meeting more musicians for my own good.

I'm not a dummy or a moron or whatever he has labeled me as. He didn't have to be so insulting just because we're different. What a sad way to view other people that is!

And the music! Again, I can't believe he doesn't believe in the power of music! He hasn't heard our music Luce and he's convinced it's no good! I should be insulted on behalf of the entire band! And has he not been approached yet by fans thanking him for touching their hearts with what he's played? That is exactly the sort of thing that proves we can change the world with our music. He'd have to be dense not to see that.

[ He crosses his arms with a 'hmph!' ]

[While he goes on his little rant, Luce patiently works through her dinner and seems to know all the right times to give a nod to encourage him on.]

[Not that he really needs encouragement.]

[When he's wound down, Luce chews over her salmon for a moment before swallowing and gesturing lightly with her fork.]

Clearly we should do a collaboration with him.

[Yes, that's what she's taken away from this.]

[ Doctor is quiet at first, mulling it over in his head, his arms still crossed. He doesn't look any happier a moment later but he does reply. ]

If you can convince him to, and the rest of the band is comfortable with it, then all right. I wouldn't mind a shot at showing him what I'm talking about first hand. I don't want his negativity dragging down Rei, Ivan, or Pao-Lin though so he'd better respect them even if he won't respect me.

Don't worry, I'll talk to him.

[There's a quiet laugh around her fork when she glances over to Doctor.]

He seems to like me, at the very least. I think you're too eccentric for his tastes.

Oh he's not the first one to disapprove of my mannerisms. He's far too late for that. But I'd rather he call me eccentric than stupid. He doesn't have to become my friend but he could treat me with basic human decency.

I'd like to see you convince him to even listen to something I wrote. Better yet, don't tell him I wrote it; you'd have to trick him to get an unbiased reaction.

[This is getting more ridiculous by the second. And yet, she's still going along with it.]

Vocally or with bass? Because the former will be easier to do on the fly you know.

[Oh yes very ridiculous on Yan's part. Doctor is sure Luce would agree if she witnessed just how mean Yan had been in person.]

Vocally. Might has well give him an example with lyrics too.

...I actually feel a little sad for Yan, even if he is a bugger.

[He'd definitely only grumbled when around her, so it'd be quite a change. Don't make her get the spray bottle, people.]

I'll be sure to do that, then.

Oh? [She rests her chin on the back of her hand.] For not knowing the power of music?

For that and for treating it less like an art and more like a routine. I don't think a person can grow as a musician if they don't put their heart into it and really try to feel the music. His technique is great, no doubt, but music is far more than perfecting a system.

Well, he's viewing this sort of like some people view clubs in regards to their college application. That might be the first problem.

He mentioned dropping out of Law School to go into music. I would have thought that was a sure sign of passion for the art. Maybe he had a one way ticket to a Virgo deal by then.

[ None of it makes sense! Then again there were several contradicting arguments on Yan's part. ]

Well, with the money saved up from a successful music career, he could go back to school without worrying about costs for anything... [Sighing, she shrugs.] That's something I can only guess on, I'm afraid. It's not something we got to talking about.

[ Doctor sighs long and loud. ]

You're brilliant Luce. Able to get on with a man like that. I'd rather not see him for at least a week and a half.

That's because I'm the diplomatic one. When I visibly can't get on with someone, that's when you know something's wrong.

[At least a little sympathetic, she pats his arm.]

I'll deal with him so you don't have to.

Thank you Luce, you're a saint.

And if he asks what I'm doing tell him I'm writing the next big hit. -Because I bloody well am! [ One last hmph! seems to satisfy him and put him in a better mood. ]
