005 ┼ I'D BE FINE WITHOUT A QUEEN
Who: Luci & You
What: You can only hijack so many shows before somebody gets pissed...
When: April 23rd
Where: Oscillia on 7th
Warnings: Violence, Carnies, the Usual
[The Performance]
Of course she hasn't booked a place, she's just going to take the stage. That's what they usually did, after all, though she's not in the mood for the flair and force. She has something else she needs to get out of her system, something the Carnies usually don't do and that's why she's asked them to let her perform solo this once. Nothing personal, of course, she just... has this pressure in her head and chest that she has to let out. Rehearsing for the world tour doesn't get it out, drinking and smoking did nothing, and the disappearances from both Virgo and Pride, Terry's strange and new ability, make it worse if anything. It's not their fault, something's wrong with her. Something feels wrong, seriously wrong, wronger than it ever has and the only thing that feels right is singing. Inspiring people. Once she gets this pressure out of her head, she can figure out what to do about all of this shit.
In the meantime, there's one lone guitar hipster on stage and Luci can take him down. She leaps onto the stage and before the guy can say anything Luci's lifted him, chair and all, and carried him off stage. With a 'mind if I borrow this?' she unclips the strap on his guitar and slides it off of him.
"Evening," she says, mildly. There's a few screams and 'woo!'s from the crowd, but for the most part the atmosphere is subdued. Maybe they're still stunned that Junkyard Carnival has, yet again, hijacked another show, or maybe they can read Luci's body language. She strums a few chords on the guitar, tunes a little, then once she's satisfied she nods. "Don't get me wrong, I'm a screamer at heart, but sometimes... something else takes hold and you just gotta get it out. Am I right?" She smirks and starts up a melody.
"Before I landed here I was certain
That I'd be fine without a queen
A fallen angel with her inferno
Summer and spring in between
But lately I can't stop
Thinking if you are close to me
Oh, calamity
"I'm losing time by the hour
You know just how this goes
But I swear that I remember--
Something familiar arose
I've spent days asking myself
How I ever came to this scene
Oh, calamity
"It's such a shame that we were strangers
Just when that changed I fucked it all
Damn, it's such a shame that they've made a wreck out of me
Oh, calamity--"
Something grabs her suddenly and the words change without her thinking about them. It's the name she should be calling out into the void, not her own, not Laura's--
"Oh, Perse--"
The hipster has had enough of Luci hijacking his show and has come up behind her with his guitar case, raging harder than is probably appropriate for the tone of the song and the room. Luci is so intensely involved in the words that she doesn't hear or see him coming. The swing of his case hits her right in the back of the head and she eats the stage, out cold.
[The Ambulance]
"Ffffuck...!" Luci looks like she's dehydrated, hasn't slept in days, and needs a blood transfusion. She's sitting on the back of the ambulance with a blanket around her shoulders, EMTs trying to keep a ring of fans at a comfortable distance while they try to take photos and no doubt gain more twitter followers or some bullshit. Her head is pounding, and part of her is absolutely humiliated that she was downed by a frizzy-haired twig in a plaid shirt. Normally she can take more punishment than just a sucker-punch to the neck...

"I want to say it was a lucky shot but... something happened."

"All the damn time. But every time I try to think about how to change it, it just..." Luci closes her hand slowly. "Like sand through my fingers. And then I go off to play a concert on a flatbed or jump out of a plane for a music video instead."

"Maybe it's keeping you from your true potential."

"Some people I've talked to can do some weird shit. Bigger weird shit than I'm able to. If anything I feel like I can do a party trick."
After another silent moment, she makes an aggravated noise. "Look, I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm not bullshitting you when I say... when I'm up there, and people are screaming at me to sing for them, that hasn't ever felt wrong. It's the most right I feel, even screwing around with groupies and, no offense, you, doesn't compare. And I don't care if they love me or hate me, as long as they're looking at me, that's right. That's right."

"Yeah, and most of them know they're meant to be somewhere else." Like Xanxus and his mob boss gig, for example.
The whole being in love with performing thing is new but...
It would make sense if they'd actually taken someone who did this shit all along, right? To throw them off, if nothing else, but he's pretty sure there are much greater reasons for Lucifer in particular.
"And maybe it is," he muses, "but it doesn't have to be here. Doesn't have to be under Bitch Watch." Hope Lesedi likes her new name.
