☆BETTER TO PRETEND

The day has finally come for Fairy Trial filming to begin!

No matter if they’ve arrived by limo or taken the bus, everyone involved gets star treatment as the makeup and costume departments go wild with the models they’ve been given. At least Sevetop has good accomodations. While it’s a chaotic and crowded scene, everyone still manages to fit in the two buildings Sevetop has dedicated for Fairy Trial’s purposes in this area. It’s one of the only points today that anyone will have a chance to everyone else. After all, once everyone involved in a particular challenge is done with, they’re hurried out the door and to their particular destination.

Every challenge has a different area it takes place in, after all. For some pair ups, they’ll find themselves merely being escorted to another set on Sevetop’s huge property. Others will find themselves being escorted to some very classy transportation and taken outside of Vista City to special obstacle courses that simply wouldn’t fit anywhere else. On the bright side, once the actual filming is done no matter the location, the crew involved seems to relax considerably. Whether they’ve done great or not, Heroes and Royals are treated to dinner and a change out of their costumes. Good job, everyone.

[Well, at least it's not entirely unexpected... Connie knew that might be a problem, and she's more than willing to roll with it, getting more and more excited.]

Fear not! Those you would have lead are a strong people, united, full of virtue! No king, out of touch with those he governs, is needed for such a country! They themselves could lead each other, if only a chance to prove themselves was given!

And who shall decide who among them leads, if not from the divine right carried in the blood of nobility?

[The metaphor may be breaking down here as Meril plunges down a path that fits it but not the underlying reality.]

[Yep, they're definitely going away from any hidden meanings now. Connie tries to figure out how to keep it on track, because this is a serious mission and not a game... It's harder than expected.]

We'll work together to find the best suited to leadership, m'lady! Already, there are those who've shown themselves to be organized and who have drawn people together! Leave this place, and I can show you the kind of people who wish to see you free and put an end to any tyranny!

It sounds to me more like a rebellion. [Tilting her head back slightly, Meril regards Connie with an icy cool look that may inadvertently carry some divine weight behind it. Reality is forceful enough to intrude in her acting.] Are you perhaps not rescuing me, but kidnapping me?

[Wow, she didn't expect one of the musicians to be such a good actor. Connie tries to draw herself up to her full height, as little as that is.]

If such a thing were true, would I approach you so boldly and declare my intentions, my lady?

Why, convinced of the rightness of such actions as you are, how could you not believe I too must be? [This veered right back into 'relevant' territory, didn't it?]

[Funny how that works out, huh?]

Would you believe this humble knight if I were to tell you that I believe you to be influenced by nefarious forces, fair lady?

A bold claim. [Still in the swing of the performance, Meril doesn't put together other claims made by other rescuers here. But a seed has been sown...] Your proof?

[Well, this is a problem... Connie tries to spin it dramatically.]

With all due respect, there is no safety for a sole knight such as myself to flaunt proof while I stand in a den of vipers! I know not who I can trust here- do you?

All I can ask is that you trust me on good faith. Nothing more and nothing less.

Well, my lady knight -- let us see how you perform in this trial. After all, what worth is the word of one who cannot back it up with deed?

[Meril is, inwardly, pleased with how this conversation has gone. She sure hopes it doesn't hit the cutting room floor!]

Of course. I swear that my actions will prove my words true!

[Even if she's not sure how great a taste tester she'll be. Connie worries a little bit about it as she's shown to the table. She doesn't know too much about different foods, what if it's from another country or-

Are those tuna melts?]

[Yeeeep.]

[Meril, despite her poise, looks ever the least bit sheepish at the corners of her eyes and mouth.]

[Well.... The tuna melts seem like a good a place to start as any, if only because they're so eye catching in the fancy location. Tentatively, feeling a little weird a camera is watching her eat, Connie starts going through.]

[It's just as she's starting to think that it's a red herring- ]

[Clink!]

[A befuddled look crosses her face, and she ducks her head into her cloak a bit so she can fish around in her mouth without it being too gross. A quick rub later with the same cloak, and she straightens up.]

There's a ring!

[Wait- hastily, she looks around. This ring looks awfully familiar!]

[Damn it Connie she had flashed the ring on her finger earlier just to avoid something so blatant... Meril quickly looks away, casually reaching up to brush an imaginary lock of hair out of her face with the hand that, conveniently, bears the mate to the ring Connie holds.]

[Sorry, Meril. She used up all her subtlety points on the earlier exchange. And in the end... She's still a pre-teen playing a game. Stars light up in her eyes as she sees the ring again, and it takes her a minute to drag back any shreds of composure.]

Even- [Her voice goes embarrassingly high, and Connie blushes beet red as she takes a deep breath.] Even with just a single taste, I can tell which cook used her royal hand to make such delectable tuna melts!

[Uuuugh, Meril will just be over her turning red. She can handle the attention when it's under her control...]
