Tooru sighs at this. "I tried. He's not interested," he said, clearly upset about this development. "He's just a kid, he shouldn't" he made a vague hand gesture. "Deal with this."

He looked at her. "You're close, aren't you? Maybe you can convince him?"

"I can try, but..." Garnet took a deep breath. "Its complicated. I'm sure he'd like to...go on a really nice trip through London. See the sights in a way you can't do on a normal trip, like the ones you want to do. But there's someone else who he'd want to come, and if they can't come, he won't go."

She straightened her back.

"And if he won't go, I can't go. I made a promise, after all."

"I can respect that," Tooru said.

He ran a hand through his hair. "I was hoping he'd like to go, but..." he sighed again.

"I'll leave it to you." Delegation was a burden because you couldn't always trust who you delegated to, but he had a feeling he could trust Garnet.

"I know." Garnet nodded. "Look, I'll do my best. I'll keep in touch with you, but I can't make any guarantees."

"There aren't any guarantees to be had," Tooru agreed grimly.

Then he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm... kinda out of my depth here. I've never done anything like this back home."

He wondered if she'd get his meaning; home meaning homeworld.

"No, I think I understand," Garnet replied carefully. "Look, as long as you're careful in London, you'll be fine, right?"

"Yeah," he tries for a smile. "I'll do my best, and you do yours."
